In the pub, what do you prefer to listen to?

Just curious what the AH's enjoy when transmongifying themselves in pleasant company. If you frequent any establishment that charges on the door, count yourself out.

Personally, DJ's in pubs annoy me. Live music all the way. A good, easy listening acoustic band get me in the right mood, but I love a slick blues/rock band.

The sound of my mate spray-shouting random stupid sh!t in to my ear over the crappy base.

But really? The sound of an awkward silence. They're always fun.

Every pub would have a band if money were no object.

But remember you have to pay ~4 people plus their instruments etc.

    DJ=Cheaper.

No i dont like this situation. Bands are great crack and a welcome break from "the hunt".

I prefer listening to the people who I am there with, and not having to shout to be heard over ridiculously loud music. If I want loud music where I can't hear myself then I will to to a club or gig.

Jukebox or nothing. The odd time a good trad band is ok.

I voted for all of them just because i could, but i dont care whats playing as long as its not so loud you need to shout to be heard.

Anything but a DJ or chart hits. Acoustic is the best for me, even if you're not that into the music, having a band is a lot of fun. If I wanted to see them amped up though, I'd go to a proper gig, rather than listen to some over-loud moron bashing an over-priced guitar and drowning out any conversation.

I dont mind music on in the background as long as it's not too loud to chat over.

Transmongify: Verb, One is transmongified towards the end of the process of binge drinking.

Can ya edit a poll? I'd stick that in if i could, Orando.

A nice acoustic set or a jukebox. Anything but some 'dj' playing Spins 10 hits in a row.... :(

I enjoy some trad/rebel music I have to say in a pub. Which is strange as I never listen to it normally.

Now for instance I am listening to W.A.S.P

Most bands are sh!te. And I hate listening to some lad belting out U2 covers. I prefer a good bar with a good DJ who knows their stuff, playing anything but pop/R'nB.

Publicans love it, something about keeping the plebs silent so they have nothing to do but either drink or stand around bored. I can't remember the last time I was in a pub that didn't have the music turned up to the very limits of human hearing.

Can't beat a good rock band on a night out!

If just going for a few pints some decent half-loud background indie and classic rock mixed with a touch of 80's fromage is a winner - once it's not so loud you can't talk.

Very low music that you can enjoy but it doesn't interfere with conversation. It's hard to find that in Dublin. Live music and DJs do my head in. ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS far too loud.

One thing to know there's a live act playing, but I hate when there's unexpected live music you have to scream over when you're trying to have a chat.

can't stand loud music or sport in pubs. I go to pubs to have conversations not listen to blaring music or sports commentary. I love pubs that don't have tvs - some low level background music is ok but not BLARING

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

So now that the thread has matured a little bit, (4 hours in the oven is usually enough to brown the edges) I might reveal my true intentions, I'm a musician...and this info will be used well!

If I'm out to see a band that I enjoy, then that's the sole reason I'm in the pub. However, if I'm just out for a few pints and a bit of craic, I'd rather have access to a good jukebox than a live band.
