Awards season and movie premiers always interest me from a fashion point of view, I love seeing who wore what and from what designer. The beautiful, the horrendous, the downright WTF, I love looking at them all. So, I thought we could use a thread like this to see what's coming and going in terms of style and who got it right and who got it soooo wrong :)

The Costume Institute Gala was on last night in New York. This seems to be a night where celebrities go all out and generally step outside the box a bit more than you would see at say the Academy awards and the likes.

For me, there was only a handful of stand-out gowns/ensembles of the night

    Sarah Jessica Parker:

    Iman:

    Kristen Bell:
    article-1382966-0BE0575800000578-574_232x667.jpg

    Isabel Lucas:
    article-1382966-0BE0900F00000578-776_310x687.jpg

    Dakota Fanning:
    article-0-0BE0B86000000578-262_470x828.jpg

There were some awful (imo) dresses though..

Beyoncé: The whole outfit just looked too tight, too severe and I think she looked really uncomfortable. In this pic you can see she can't even walk up the steps by herself..
    article-1382966-0BE06C6900000578-143_470x861.jpg

J-Lo: I actually quite like the dress, even if the detail at the neck is a bit fussy, but the feather shrug just ruined the whole thing for me.
    article-1382966-0BE05DE900000578-368_310x666.jpg

Rosie Huntington-Whitely: Material is too shiney, sleeves are the wrong lenght and ill-fitting, I think white is the wrong colour to accessorize with. And I think the colour of the dress really washes her out.
    article-1382966-0BE0574600000578-788_310x666.jpg

Anyone have any thoughts on who they did/didn't like? Not just from last nights red carpet, but any really :)

I don't usually like SJP's style but that dress is bloody stunning!

I absolutely adore Isabel Lucas. She looks unbelievable. I think she always looks great, but yeah, I love it.

What has Isabel Lucas got on her head? That girl, she's obsessed with weird head adornments. I don't really like her though.

The GFY girls posted a bunch of links on twitter but I've already forgotten who I liked, dying for a good read of it when I get home. I really liked Madonna's dress but as usual the Met Ball is full of madness.

There were a lot of nudes/pale golds, it seemed. Is nude/pale gold unsuitable for a wedding i wonder? Am very inspired to purchase!

+1 The whole outfit is perfect, the hair is perfect for the style of the dress.

I love her style too, I could never pull it off but I love how she always goes a little different but still not so overboard that it comes off as looking like she tried too hard. She has a very natural style, very effortless.

I loved the head piece! Now, I wouldn't go wearing it myself but I think she pulls it off amazingly well and you'd be hard pressed to find someone who looks as good in it.

    GFY? What's that? :o

I think it would depend of the shade of nude/pale gold. Anything that had a definitely pink tone would be better than a cream/off white tone obviously. If you go for gold I'd check that the bride was going to wear gold (I've been to two wedding where the bride has worn gold). Keep it obviously metallic and I'd say you'd be ok.

My favourite oscar outfit of all time has been Michelle Williams in 2006. She wore this Vera Wang dress

Everything about it made me love it. The colour was not something extremely popular in 2006, the red lip isn't something you'd automatically put with yellow and the accessories weren't an obvious choice either, the soft swept up hairstyle just brought it all together I think.

LOVED Saoirse Ronan's Rodarte dress. Incredible cut and great colour on her. (She's standing with the Mulleavy sisters')

And Dakota Fanning! I adored that ethereal floral dress.

True. Pretty sure it'd look dreadful on everyone but she is headpiece girl so not as dreadful ;) AH, I just really really hate it personally. But it's like her thing now. Not sure I'd recognise her without something mad on her head!

    GFY? What's that? :o

After I posted I realised I'm not 100% sure the bride is wearing white despite having discussed it with her twice, she's getting the dress made... best avoided for the wedding. Have an engagement thing later in the year I might give it a go for.

Kate Hudson combined the head piece and pale gold look. I thought she looked absolutely stunning, the dress was really flattering on her bump. It was boho chic-esque (the soft, loose waves in her hair), in keeping with her usual style but very very classy too.

Jessica Alba, also pregnant looked amazing too, imo.

This soft pale gold really is quite popular at the moment.

I really wasn't a fan on Christina Riccis dress at all.. It looked very fussy and too much for her tiny frame.. :

For anyone interested pics of most of the dresses from last night can be found here :)

Once again Michelle Williams looks amazing.

    As does Eva Mendes

While I liked Fergies dress.. I think it looks very bridal. Maybe it's the sleeves and styling

My favourites were SJP, Leighton Meistor, Taylor Swift (suprisingly), Blake Lively, and Christina Ricci in Zac Posen was the one I admired but would never consider wearing myself. Strange as she usually doesnt get it right!

Stella McCartney and Alexander McQueen seemed to be the favourites for the night.

Isabel Lucas's dress is beautiful, but the headpiece is strange! And she looks terrible! Washed out, sickly even! Compared to how she was on Home and Away, always super slim but used to have a healthy glow.

Beyonce - couldn't walk in her dress. Fair enough is often the case with me and shoes but in her case I think it was a bit ridiculous that she couldnt freely move in a dress.

Miranda Kerr - like the body but a bit too tutu-ish but godamnit the woman is a goddess! Her post pregnancy pics make me sick! Lucky Orlando ;)

The Olsen sisters = MYGOD did someone tell them it was fancy dress! The Dior dress with the puffy sleeves is awful!
