Got down the latest Java, and 1st time running Minecraft since a reinstall of windows, and I got the annoying error ("Could Not Create Java Virtual Machine"). Right, says I, time to mix and match settings, and I found one that worked for me, and hopefully will work for you.

Start > Control Panel > Java

    Click the "Java" tab.

Under where it says "Java Runtime Environment Settings", click the "View" button.

Untick the "enable" box. Click "OK", and then "Apply", and then "OK".

Run Minecraft.exe and it should work okay for you.
