Hi folks, I just got this quote from Carole Nash for my new Porsche 924, it's a 1979 car, worth about €2K(ish!): €213 for up to 4000 miles. I'm new to classic insurance etc, and I need to get cover ASAP, so if anyone has any insight into a better plan of action, your advice would be greatly appreciated! Cheers..

Try Aviva too, I paid €250 comp with them on a 911 3.2 cabriolet, agreed value €20k.

Thanks for that, they quoted €219 for fully comp, limited to 5000 miles a year. Still a bit high I think :)

I'm failing to see how €219 can be considered expensive for any car insurance, forgetting what it's on for a mo.....

Remember, your insurance requirement is the same no matter what you drive (or it's value) - there is little connection between the two.

How much are you expecting to get it for ??

Assuming that quote is for fully comp (with breakdown?) I happen to think it's pretty good.

I just paid €253 for my 1983 924 with Aviva, as some places wouldn't insure me with on-street parking only.

I was expecting to get it for about €150, as the previous owner had that price; I think now that he had it on 3rd party. I'd prefer to have fully Comp with breakdown, just in case! Spoke to Aviva this evening and asked them to send me out the forms. Carole Nash are the slightest bit cheaper (also fully comp), but they limit the mileage at €4000 a year. Good to know that the quotes are reasonable then, it's always good to make sure!!

Funny thing about regular insurance is that it's more expensive here in the Northwest, due to bad stats in Sligo and Mayo. I've seen some woeful driving here in the last 2 years I've lived in Sligo, my Dad said this independently when he visited a few times. I'll have to upgrade my brakes :)

Yep, "you have to hold the headlamps beam on".. txted so probably out of context.. I don't think he meant that's the way the car is designed, I hope not anyway!

In fairness to him, insurance CAN be got for €150, I was being optimistic in thinking it might be fully comp. €220 is pretty good, what really does it for me it €48 road tax and no NCT ever :)

Cheapest are usually useless... but get classic cover from Flux or Pete Best..
Owners club mags are full of such companies.
Great cover at low prices but usually limited annual mileage.

Flux and Best couldn't cover me in my location, meaning ROI? Where are you located?

Try FBD I am with them for 148euro on a 1972 beetle. They upped their rates last year to deal with the floods last winter but that is not bad.they dont deal with brokers so you will have to contact them yourself.

I am with AXA and have been since owning my TR6. Its about €310 comprehensive\5000 miles a year which has me and the 'ovver 'arf' on the policy. Now that may seem on the expensive side but the benefits seem to me to be pretty good with things such as full European cover for 30 days and breakdown including repatriation of the vehicle if needed in the cost. On top of that the guys in their 'Concours' department are classic car enthusiasts and understand your needs and are easy to deal with one to one (and for this entry I expect a discount next year!)
    :o

You will get €152 with FBD via irish vintage society of Ireland, but you need to have a second car with 5 years no claim bonus as far as I remenber.

    Worth checking.

Lightning and Dades, do you have other car insure with 5 years no claim bonus on them or do you have only your classic.

I am thinking about getting a working 924 to drive me around instead of the small clio.
But I will need that car to be consider as my main vehicle and have the no claims bonus on it.

I got a quote a while back from first Ireland for €650 I think.

Hum yeah lads, I need a bit of help here.
I rang some insurance this morning to get quotes, but the price I m getting are away too dear.
I rang FBD, first Ireland, 123.ie, carol nash, and either the insurance don t want to insure me or at €1100 to insure a 924 on as a daily driver like a normal car.

I have 14 years of full driving license, never a claim, I can prove 7 years no claims.
    I really don t understand it :(

Even first Ireland which quote me 6 months ago €650, are now tell me it will be €1100. and they don t consider Porsche as been classic although they were 6 months ago.
They are breaking my dream, could u help me ?
