Hey all so im going to put my question to the boards :D

i have a MTB carbon bike (new) and looking for some rack for the car.

I was show by one crowed something like this http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=182&idproduct=11168

tho for 60e anyhow its just the same one, but then in a other shop they said the rack above could ware the bike frame at the points of where it is held and that i should look at this - http://www.cyclesuperstore.ie/shop/pc/viewPrd.asp?idcategory=182&idproduct=28549

and that is around 370e so around 300 more then i though i would be paying i also dont have a toegich so going to have to fork out for that too!

so im sure there is osmething in the middle that someone is going to show me but any adive and or experince in this matter would be so great!

Saris Bones 2 or 3 would scratch your itch.

Got one about a month ago and could not be happier with it

Nice price at Merlin Cycle through thier VIP scheme.

I have the hollywood 3 and I think it has been great. I use it daily for my park and ride and for short journeys dont even bother with the straps.

My bike is carbon with a white paint job and there are a few small scrapes from the constant mounting (more from when you are placing the frame over the end bars than the rubber holders). Depends on how pristine you want your bike and how much you are willing to pay for the honour.

Also just to note if like me you have any cable running under the bottom of your top bar it can get rubbed, stretched but i dont find this a real issue for me. Cables are cheap.

I got this rack based on another threads recommendation and got it in hollingswoth cycles - the same price around abouts any online, halfords, or argos cheapo I saw and they fit it for me too.

Tow bar mount, or failing that roof mount. Preferably buy a van !

Cheers for the feed back tho.

Thule systems are easily the best but definitely not the cheapest if it's any help

I agree with Dingdong on the Saris. I have the Bones 3 and it is easy to set up (a few minutes after a couple of uses), it's very sturdy & is also quite compact when not being used.

    I'd highly recommend one!:D

As far as I know Cyclelogical or Base2Race (Ballymount) are approved stockists. When I was looking for mine Cyclelogical only had the tow mount Saris racks & B2R wanted €145. I checked out Wiggle and managed to get a price match (compared to Amazon.co.uk) and paid €119 with free P&P. Again, mine is the Saris Bones 3 which I thought was good value.;)

I'm looking at getting a rack, but although I can find the Hollywood 3 in most shops, I haven't seen the Saris Bones 3 anywhere except online. Has anyone experience of both racks? Is it worth my while tracking down a Saris Bones 3, or will the Hollywood 3 do the job?

    Thanks

I'm looking for a Saris Bones 2 - anyone know a shop that stocks it as I'd rather be sure that it fits my car before I buy it? Don't really want to fit a towbar or roofrack to my RX8!

Scrub my last post - found pictures of this rack on the web fitted to an RX8 so I know it'll fit ok, just need to find a good price now...

Vehicle guide on the website doesn't seem to give the answer so just wondering if anyone would know if the Saris Bones 3 would fit ok on an Audi A4 (saloon, 2002)?

I've had a Hollywood rack for many years now. It's been fine even when overloaded...
