I really want to take a year out from my studies and just work and reevaluate my life really

So I went to my careers advisor in College and she suggested I go somewhere in the UK. Wales appeals to me because of the Ferry ports... I could just drive over really. I've just put a lot of money into my car which I won't ever get back if I sell it. (Best to drive it into the ground really or else I'll make a HUGE loss..) So if I want to come home, just hop on the ferry and I'm back in Dublin.

Anyone have any idea how easy it is to get, say jobs in retail, say high street shops/supermarkets, bars, etc? I have some experience.

Also whats the craic like? ;)
The last year of my life has been utterly craicless :(

Somewhere in the UK you say? So you could just drive up to Belfast, and save yourself the ferry fare? and then you have Derry which will be the 2013 "UK City of Culture", so maybe that's an option too? but I agree with your careers advisor Wales is really lovely, it really is a nice get away, just ferry over to Holyhead or Rosslare & enjoy a slightly different scene for a year. I know North Wales very well, I have camped there many times all over, its pretty quiet with just a few largeish towns, LLandudno comes to mind, but well woth spending time at your age just bumming around in the summer months, you might also consider the 'West country' thats the Sth/West part of England, that run's along the border with Wales, Bath, Glastonbury, Wells, Stonehenge, etc - really beautiful countryside, Bristol being the obvious large ferry port there!

    ENJOY YOURSELF :)
