Well, my uncle has a rock. It's a strange reddish-brown rock with little white lines/curves in it. They look a bit like shells to me.

I wanted to ask if anyone knew of someone in the college that could help identify it. My uncle has had this rock for a long time and recently asked me to try to find someone who could tell him what it is.

I know this is a weird thing to ask, but I figured I would give it a shot. :pac:

I don't know.... maybe post a picture of this aforementioned stone and we can all try and see what it is.

it would certainly be more fun/constructive then the other flame wars that are currently alight.

Boards has a geography forum, bound to be some geologists in there.

Or you could try ask someone in the geography department either? It's in Rhetoric House on south campus.

My friend is doing a masters in geography so if you post up a picture here she might be able to identify it.

Sounds like an oxidised granite rock, but I'm no expert!

    Epic title for a post!

I'd agree with the others, stick a photo up and/or bring it into the geography department!

But also, stick up a photo either way, I'm curious now! :)

Anyone else worried that if he sticks up a photo it won't be a rock?

Here are a few pictures. My uncle isn't going to win prizes for his photography, but hopefully they'll give an idea of what they look like.

looks like shale or mudstone, from a beach, with fossilized worm tracks, (Scallitas? i think) in it.
    Pretty.
