Anybody know if these guns can be bought new? I know they went out of production a few years ago but I have seen them on Baikal's website http://imzcorp.com yesterday so I was wondering if they are back on the market. Just hoping they are because I used one of these in America a few years ago and it suited me perfectly.

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I don't know , but i'd be interested to know too, i believe they are great pistols for the money and were sold by other makers rebadged.

I was looking for one a while ago.

Not a sign of one anywhere :(

IZH seem to have stopped making them in 2003 and they're getting harder and harder to find these days and prices have almost doubled from what they used to be :( Rowa's correct, they were sold rebadged (and polished and with new grips) by Walther as the KSP for a few years (people eventually stopped buying them because they could get the IZH for half the price and it worked just as well).

But for the OP, if you can find a KSP, that's the same firearm as a 35M, and while it might be more expensive, it'll come with Morini grips and it'll be a bit more polished.

whats the situation on using pistols chambered for .22 short in target competitions ? is it permitted ?

Not since the new Restricted List came out in 2009 rowa - it was just ".22 inch" up till then, now it's ".22 inch long rifle".

But apart from that sparks, is it possible to use a short chambered pistol under the competition rules and regs ?

Apart from not being able to licence the pistol rowa (unless you had it prior to Nov'08), the answer is yes, depending on the competition. ISSF matches wouldn't though - they require .22lr (ISSF Rapid Fire Pistol used to use .22short, but moved away from it some years back to .22lr); but they're not the only kind of match.

Who wrote the new laws ? Someone with absolutely zero knowledge of firearms at all obviously , was the .22 long rifle stipulation put in unwittingly Or was it deliberate ?
How can the .22 short be more of a risk to the public safety then a more powerful round ?

Basicly (and I'm simplifying a few years down to a single line or two here): The AGS pushed for IOC rules and read ".22lr" off the ISSF rulebook (which is about one-third of the IOC rules, but I don't think the MPAI or IBU rules were read). Up until the second FCP seminar, it would have been .22 short, .22lr, and all centerfires up to .38; then someone pointed out in the worst possible time and place that the ISSF rules allowed centerfire up to .38 and within 24 hours things got worse again and we wound up with what we have now. Hopefully, we're not stuck with it for too long - it's only an SI, it just requires the Minister's say-so to change.
