Car with Hazards on IN FRONT of a tractor on Dual Carrigeway

I was on the South Ring in Cork a few mins ago, on the flyover I spotted a tractor and large trailer travelling along pretty slowly.
When I passed it there was a car just a short bit in front with it's hazards on.
I didn't see any point in this tbh, he would have been far better off behind the tractor to warn people IMO.

    What do people think?

i think its to indicate to on coming traffic that wide load approaching
    probably for narrower roads though

But you definitely wouldn't need that on the South Link, so why not fall back behind the tractor while it's on the Link and then move back in front when they pull off onto a narrower road if that's the point?

That's exactly what I thought, or would have done.
Having a large load travelling at <30 km/he on a dual carriageway in the evening with no warnings as you approach is dangerous imo

If you can find me a large tractor that will only do 30kph these days I will wax my balls. Almost all large new tractors have 60kph boxes and while this is quiet slow its as fast as some pensioners on dual carriageways.

I'm well aware of how fast new tractors are. Too aware for my own liking as I drive them when back home on the farm.
This particular tractor was not one of them and it was pulling a large potato harvester. Defo doing 30 Hm/hr or less.

    Get out the wax.

Most new tractors do 40km/h, with a few doing 50km/h. The only ones that do in excess of this are generally the JCB Fastracks, and these are generally limited to 50km/h from the factory so they can run on marked diesel legally.

(and there are loads of tractors about with 30k and even 25k 'boxes!)

Whereas the tractor might have a 60k box its highly unlikely that the potato harvester being pulled would be rated to be towed at those speeds, this is how the Traffic Corp's are catching out the likes of lads in Fast Tracs at the moment.
