Do you mind when people finish your sentences?

    For the last few years now i've become accustomed to finishing peoples sentences. I 've never had someone else do it to me though. I always thought it was with people i knew well etc so i would know what they were saying anyway. But a new housemate moved in and i found myself finishing bordering every one of their sentences. (So much so i was trying to stop myself)

    I've always thought doing it showed the fact that i was really listening to what someone was saying but I'm now beginning to wonder does this annoy people?

    I do it all the time. Only one of mates seems to notice it though and he hates it. I don't even notice myself doing it most of the time.

    If it's a joke and you steal the punchline, I'd imagine it would become annoying. Normal sentences, hasn't happened enough to say.

    I do it all the time, mainly at work

    Someone calls and I cut them off and start talking about what they assume they're calling over

    It's a bad habit but some people need to get the point a bit quicker!

    Does my head in, and when they finish them wrong it's even worse.

    It can come across as display of how clever the sentence finisher is.

    I think I do it quite a bit now that I think about it. Didn't really ever consider that I could be doing a whole lot wrong. I'll do it less now, having read some of the replies.

    Had to stop one of my friends from attempting to finish my sentences. She never got the end right which was even more annoying than the fact that she was talking over me :mad:

    I hate when people do it, depends on how they do it though.

    I do find myself offering words sometimes when others are stuck, mostly because I am impatient and wish to hurry then along so I get to say my more important bit.
