Cracks in walls

    Hey
i have cracking in my walls in the corners of window frames that has become more noticeable over the last few months... The cracks have corresponding cracks on the exterior and i am becoming increasingly concerned. I have heard about pyrite and the associated horror stories.. The builder came out and tried to fob me off with the usual 'they are only settlement cracks' and 'we'll come over and plaster it for you'.. i am arranging for a structural engineer to come out and have a look but am very worried at what he may find .. has anyone any experience of this situation and can you give me some advice/comfort...

    cheers

Ah pyrite - the new buzzword...

Wait and see what your engineer says..

If it was pyrite I would expect your floor slab to heave and cause cracking of floor finishes etc. It sounds like settlement cracks given that its at the corner of window opes. The fact that the cracks run through inside to outside is of concern - likely that your foundation is undersized or is built off inadequate ground. Replastering is a waste of time as it will simply open up again.

Wait for your engineer to inspect.
