Aussies for Ireland?

Over the past couple of years, Holland have called up both Dirk Nannes and Tom Cooper to the national squad. Although Nannes has since left again. They have been able to do this as both have Dutch parents, grandparents( not sure which) and qualified for Dutch passports.

My point is, surely there are players playing first class cricket in Australia, England and probably New Zealand who would qualify for Ireland through this route. Are Cricket Ireland looking at this? Surely the temptation of playing international cricket would entice these guys into declaring for us. Look at the soccer team, we would never have qualified for Euro 88 and Italia 90 without the Granny rule.

If we could land a number of experienced players from these countries surely we could boast our chances of test cricket? Would people support this?

Well I'm sure there is plenty of Australians with Irish blood somewhere that could play for Ireland but I wouldn't say Cricket Ireland are looking into it but if a certain player inquired about playing for Ireland, I'm sure they wouldn't say no...
