    Hi,

Saorview has recently started broadcasting in my area.
I'm getting 90% signal level, with 95% quality, on my existing setup. (JVC LT-32DY8ZJ HD ready tv., wideband grid aerial, and wideband booster.

I'm getting sound on all the channels - but no picture. DTT is on channel 22.

I've been thinking of getting a cheap type A aerial, rather than messing with my existing setup, but am unsure whether the aerial is the problem, or if I need an STB, since the TV is British spec.
The only info. in the tv specifications is that digital frequencies are 474MHZ -858MHz.

    Any advice gratefully received.

If you have sound but no picture then you have a TV that is good for UK DTT (MPEG-2) but not Ireland (MPEG-4), you need to buy either a new TV or set top box (STB) which is 'Saorview' compatible.

It's unlikely that you need a new aerial, the frequencies are the same for analog and digital TV, they are all UHF signals. What transmitter are you receiving the signal from?

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that might be the case.

I'm getting the signal from Magheroarty. Way up in NW Donegal.

It looks like I'm now in the market for a combo STB, then, since I also receive freeview, and I really don't want any more boxes/cables.

Can anyone recommend a decent combo (sat and terrestrial) box?

If you can get Freeview, then you don't really need a combo box with satellite. A Freeview HD box should allow you to pick up Freeview and Saorview.

    Wrong forum by the way....

Thanks. Sorry for posting in the wrong forum. I found an old thread on saorview, and made a silly assumption. Apologies again.

Magheroarty broadcasts analog RTE1 on Ch. 21 and RTE2 on Ch. 24, if you are getting a good reception for these channels then you most definitely do not need a new aerial for Saorview on Ch. 22. Both signals are vertically polarized. If you were starting from scratch you'd probably buy a group A aerial but if you're happy with the existing analog channels, DTT will come in loud and clear with the same aerial.

Take a look over on the Terrestrial forum where there's tons of discussion on Freeview and Saorview and combi boxes.

You moved it to Broadcasting instead, it should be in Terrestrial.
