They are a nice car to drive, its the same engine from the Focus. Fairly reliable compared to a lot of other diesels but can give some trouble, not too bad though.

If if needs a new clutch it will also need a dual mass flywheel...Another thing to check is if it's had a new dpf fitted + eloys fluid topup...??

If you go to the main dealer to get a new dmf and dpf fitted then you won't have much change out of €2000...

Looked at this model some time ago. Apparently the clutch goes every 20K and is very expensive to have done according to the people who have this car?

Usally on the 1.6 hdi's the clutch/flywheel needs replacing around 100-130 k mls....some of the 2.0 hdi's can give dmf trouble also within a shorter period of time/mileage.

a clutch is known to go on a modern car like this every 20k miles  ??
Seriously, is this expected? Sounds like a major flaw to me.

Sounds like hearsay to me. The majority of modern diesels seem to have DMF trouble, but at mileages more like 70k+ miles like the example above.

Can you get solid flywheel replacements for these, and do they make much of a difference with increased noise and vibration?

I have enquired about solid flywheel replacements for both 1.6 hdi/2.0 hdis
but the are not available atm...:(

I take it the flywheel is different to that in the 406 HDi 110? There are solid conversion kits available for them at least

You should check if the timing belt has been done as well. I have a 2.0 and the book states it should be done at 90K

Good comfortable car btw. I just got mine remapped at the weekend and am very happy with it. Engine is pretty good on these and I think like every other car, if they are properly serviced and looked after they work well. The only troubles I had with mine was an ABS sensor and front coilspring (I live in a place where that can only be described as speedbump central and this was in the -17 degree cold last winter).

Check the service history very carefully. Using the wrong grade of oil can lead to turbo failure. That's spectacular, and expensive.
It happened to a mate of mine. He also had to fix a rear ABS sensor, and sort the DPF and additive.
that's about all in 120k km. Nice car.
