Noticed the last few days that the wind seems to dissapear in the evening and then return again at sunrise. Why is this? Wind is very strong today

During the day, turbulence in the boundary layer increases, dragging down some stronger winds from above. Sea breezes also become established through the differential heating of the land and sea.

At night, with no solar heating, the boundary layer becomes stably stratified, with cool layers near the surface. This setup keeps stronger winds several hundred metres above the surface.

Doesn't look to be much end in sight, but the winds will veer more southerly as the week goes on, so the east may get a break from the chill.
