Bought one last year and was actually pleasantly surprised by it.
Still a bit if a toy and gimmick though.
Never used it for hunting purposes just for larking about and spying on the neighbours ( joke... Honest!)
If you want a gawk through it pop down to my place for a look.

I have one that the Mrs. got me for Christmas, They're a bit fiddly and I don't have the patience to be messing around with focus etc.

Its new I've used it once, I have all the original packaging, I'ld bring it back to the shop for a refund but they only allow a refund up to 28 days.

    €100 and its yours!

As all night vision devices uses Ir illuminators, it all depends on how strong illuminator is. If you take this bresser for example, and add extra illumination, say put IR filter on your Lightforce spot light it wouldn't be that bad for the money. Check out this video, it shows what difference extra Ir makes to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gaCLk5eUbQ

Never looked through one. What would you intend using it for exactly Poulo?

I've got a Yukon digital Ranger which I have a 5x lens and a 2x lens for. I've mounted it on a tripod and jerry rigged a LF170 on the side of it with an IR filter. To be used for baiting and ambushing foxes, though not used in anger yet really.

Carrying it out with you on a normal nights lamping will become a PITA quickly IMO.

Personally I'd save up a few more shekels and go for a (digital) Ranger or (tubed) Yukon Exelon. Or if you're feeling adventurous make your own cascade tube, have most of the parts already, just not had the time to get on and do the job.

i would use it to scan fields for fox and bunnies. it doesn't look to cumbersome
and might help catch out the lamp shy foxes.

how would a digital ranger help for night vision

Cumbersome, well depends, you'll need extra IR and decent lasers aren't cheap.

Ranger is a better unit, plus you can fit a 2x lens on it in place of the original 5x. This gives a wider field of view and there's much less fiddling with focus also, focus is important as the view will blur at different ranges without it.

In all practicality, there's more to consider than just using the unit photographed on the Lidl site ;)

Yukon Exelon would be another unit to consider, I think that's 3x, again with the wider field of view and less focusing nonsense. But, that's a tubed unit so it can be damaged by excess light.

You need permission from your Supernintendo to possess any NV device that is capable of being attached to a firearm - even if you've no intention of attaching it to a firearm or even own a firearm.
