Heating water, immersion vs oil, both causing problems

Hi, new to boards and looking for some help.

With the nice weather we've been having of late I don't need the heat on in the house. However, still need hot water for showers etc. I used to switch on immersion in hot press but last summer noticed a very loud boiling noise coming from hot press. This could be heard downstairs too. Asked plumber who said I was "kettling" and that I should use the oil to heat the water even during summer. Even when I could hear this noise the water wouldn't always be warm enough for a couple of showers.

So used the oil without issue last year to heat the water. This year however, after I switched off the two switches controlling the radiators I get lots of hot water but very strange gurgling noises through the pipes around the house, the ones going towards/from the water tank in hot press. These noises last the whole time the heat is on but stop once it's off.

I have no idea what type of immersion or boiler but just wondering if there is any quick fix to this as the gurgling noises are loud enough to wake me in the mornings.

    Thanks for any help

Check your water level in the small expansion tank in loft, or check pressure in the system.

Right, checked the pressure in the only place I've a pressure sensor thing and that downstairs where the plumber did something last year when I had a problem with the heating. Pressume this is what you mean? It has a reading of 1.2

I'm not sure what tank you are referring to? Is that different to the main water tank in the attic?

What should I be looking for in this tank?

I'm sorry for sounding like an eejit but household stuff is very foreign to me and have never been great at the DIY!

It sounds like air in the system, if there is no F&E tank and its a pressurised system then check the automatic air vent which will look like this 97--vent.jpg

Right, where would I find that and do I open it when I find it? I'm not sure about the tank, would it be in the attic near the main water tank?

    Thanks for you help

Right got a friend of a friend over who said the pressure had dropped, topped it up then bled a radiator, topped it up again and since then the noises seem to have stopped. Hope that's it solved. Now just wondering how pressure drops and how air gets in? Want to try and prevent this happening again
