    Surprised this not up yet

    From Sky News

Al Qaeda Leader Osama Bin Laden Killed
Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden has been killed in an American-led operation in Pakistan, US President Barack Obama has announced.

In the latest pictures from Abbotabad, a town just 60 miles from the Pakistani capital Islamabad, flames are seen rising from a building that was the apparent target of the raid.
It is thought Bin Laden had been living in a walled $1m villa in the town for at least the last eight months.
He was reportedly asked to surrender by US forces before he was shot in the head.
Pakistani television stations have broadcast what they say is a photograph of the bloodied face of the world's most wanted man after he was killed.

Pakistani TV network Geo said the image of Bin Laden's face was unverified
However, Sky's foreign affairs editor Tim Marshall said the image of the bearded man, with one eye open and blood stains on his temple, was inconclusive.
Three adult males were also killed in the raid on the compound, including one of Bin Laden's sons.
The blaze appeared to have been caused when one of the four helicopters used by US forces suffered mechanical failure and crashed.
"A small team of Americans carried out the operation with extraordinary courage and capability. No Americans were harmed. They took care to avoid civilian casualties," President Obama said.
In the last few minutes, David Cameron has been speaking from Downing Street, saying the news would be welcomed across the country.
"It is, I believe, a massive step forward," he said.

Earlier, President Obama confirmed in a news conference: "I can report to the American people and to the world, that the US has conducted an operation that killed Osama bin Laden."
The US president said he was briefed about a possible lead to the whereabouts of the mastermind of the September 11 attacks in August and last week appproved an operation "to bring Bin Laden to justice".
After a firefight they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body
    US President Barack Obama
The body of Bin Laden - who fled the US-led invasion of Afghanistan in 2001 - was recovered by US officials from the compound in Abbottabad, northwest of Pakistan, where he had been hiding.
President Obama said: "After a firefight they killed Osama Bin Laden and took custody of his body."
A US official told reporters that the corpse was being handled in accordance with Islamic customs.

Dribs and drabs of information starting to trickle out
ABC reported U.S. officials said the strike force that hit the compound between 1:30 and 2 a.m. Sunday consisted of 20-25 U.S. Navy SEALs under the command of the Joint Special Operations Command in cooperation with the CIA. There was a gun battle in which bin Laden fired his weapon before being killed, ABC said.

The dead included two Bin Laden couriers, one of bin Laden's sons and a woman reportedly used as a shield by one of the men, ABC reported. Other women and children in the compound were not injured, Pakistani officials said.

There reportedly were two U.S. and one Pakistani helicopters involved in the raid. ABC reported one U.S. helicopter was damaged during the operation and the U.S. forces decided to destroy it themselves with explosives. The Wall Street Journal reported a Pakistani official said the Pakistan chopper crashed after being struck by insurgent firing.

Pakistani officials said the operation was a joint U.S.-Pakistani operation, but U.S. officials said only U.S. personnel were involved in the raid.

Funny how all the different claims and stories are coming out now. Initially it was supposedly a US only operation and Obama had authorized to perform the operation without informing Pakistan, while Pakistan claim they were also involved and it was a joint operation.

Many in Pakistan's government agencies are in cahoots with AQ and the Taliban.

Of course I wouldn't. Obviously they're going to make an attempt at looking like they had some role in the killing instead of admitting "ye it was all the yanks, funny lads them, didn't even tell us they were going in". Apparently the house Bin Laden was staying in is only down the road from a Pakistani army base as well.

The first briefing was by the Foreign Office. Maybe they just didn't check with the MoD.

Pakistani media are reporting that the helo which went down in the operation was Pakistani, which would be a fairly odd one to hide/get wrong.

The operation was most definitely "Joint." You will be hearing more about them in the coming weeks.
