Hey OP i worked Oxegen last year with sword. Grand company made some savage money up there. We were the sword group from cork. Bus up and home again the following monday, paid by sword, on the wednesday ie the day before it opened and had a look around the place.
Camping in the staff camping site which is grand as all you have is people working, sleeping or having a few drinks. Theres no ****e there ie people jumping on tents etc.
People are assigned different shifts and places once you get up there. I got assaigned to the bus entrance so was basically inside that gate up by the green campsite directing buses in ie private buses, dublin bus, bus eireann etc had diff route each.
I worked 8am-8pm every day the Thursday-Sunday and 8am-2pm the monday. Overall worked about 54 hours and got payed €720. Also get your breakfast, lunch and dinner provided every day in staff canteen. The breakfast is basically a brekkie roll and the others is whatevers on the menu.
With regards stuff youd need your tent obviously, waterproofs, a few changes of pants, tops clothes etc. Flashlight in case your put on night shift. windbreakers, suncream, baby wipes (although staff campsite does have toilets and wash area). Energy bars, energy drinks, brekkie bars. Bring something for your feet because after so long on your feet last year i saw even the toughest lads in crippling pain.
When you arent working you are free to wander around, do what you want. 8-8 shift was grand as was able to head in and catch a few acts such as black eyes peas, mumford and sons, eminem etc. If you need anything up there theres a free bus into naas to.
I may be forgeting stuff but if you need to know anything else just ask.

There are a fair few tents in the staff section but its not to bad. BTW the staff camp is on a slope whatever you do dont pitch down the bottom of that slope. We got torrential rain last year and a fair few lads tents got flooded. A few had to check into a b and b.

I done it a couple of years back with Sword, I wasn't a professional one was more a one off nixar I got through a mate. Shifts tend to be 8pm till 8am and 8am to 8pm, I had the evening one which wasn't too bad. Basically celticutd summed it up to a tee above. You'd get away with leaving the site tbh when you're not working, like they have hundreds employed so they won't notice a few of yous gone. If yous are drinking don't leave the bottles are the place, few with us got spoken to about that.

It's tough, but it's decent pay and can be good craic unless you get stuck with some foreign lad who didn't have a word of English for 12 hours like what happened to me one night.

Why would sword employ a foregin lad that cant speak english to be steward/security :) hes not much use cause no one understand him :)

now that would be tough alright night shift would be better too . The things i done with em so far have been grand when we were in pairs . Done one shift on my own and can get boreing but once there is people asking quetsions etc time does go that bit quicker .

Where were you put ? Did you have a dsp security licience ? Or does it make much difference ?

Generally you'll be in groups of two.

I was put in 4 different places everynight tbh, you just got assigned places after you had some in the canteen. Working at the bus entrance was the best craic though, chasing travellers who tried to rob parked Dublin Buses.:D

I didn't have a DSP license, nor did anyone I was with, we were just drafted in as "numbers" I'd say, just a random text off a mate asking did I want to work at Oxegen. I do remember working with a couple of "professional" lads one day and I'd say they had there DSP license but I doubt it matters where you get put.

One word of warning from last year, be careful where you get your cheque lodged.
There was a guy on here last years who had agreed a reduced payment plan for a loan with his bank cause he got laid off.
Once the wedge appeared in his account the bank revoked the agreement.

I worked Oxygen a few years back. I was made do 18 hour shifts because loads of people ran off to go to the gigs. Very tough work, especially when your dealing with drunk girls who have VIP bands and they think they are royalty.

The only tip I can give you is be prepared for long hours, mental and physical exhaustion. Also be careful of the security camp sites. They can be very dangerous. A girl was raped the year we stayed there, and my mates tent was ransacked by other security personnel.

Is it only Sword who work at Oxegen or are there any other security or stewarding companies that work there too?
