I was watching Reeling In The Years tonight, and I watched ya man scoring the winner for Cork in the 1973 All Ireland Final and thought "Is say he has a handy number".

But I have been thought this over the years, and do not know it completely myself. But is it true?

There's currently a proposal being made to offer subsidies to employers who hire GAA players.

It's a load of parochial bollox, imo

    State sponsored discrimination.. lovely!

They get ****ing handy numbers before they retire.

And out before someone says they don't care.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Yes, like 087 1111111 and 086 2222222. Depends if they are sponsored by 02 or Vodafone.

That idea hints at the wrong kind of "special". It's like offering subsidies to employers who hire, you know.... "challenged" people.

Well Enda Kenny's da was part of the Mayo team that won the All-Ireland and he became a TD... But most of them already have handy jobs before they retire, they are well taken care of and plenty of time off if they want or need it.

They often get jobs in sales & suchlike.

Lots of people will buy stuff off people they admire & companies know it.

If you have a realistic chance of making the first 15 of a team that has a realistic chance of winning a senior All-Ireland title you will get looked after to some extent. Thats only about 200 players in all 32 counties at any given time. Given that most of them look after themselves before they make it as players what you're taking about is a possible 60/70 who are currently playing have used the jersey to get their job.

I'd say only about 10 GAA players a year get handy numbers as a result of playing for their county so you wouldn't wanna be staying awake at night about it.

well there's alot of unemployed inter county players at the moment - even on the Cork senior football team and they are All Ireland Champions!
    Time moves on, things change.

Yeah, and there's all sorts of reports of teams being torn apart by emigration. Accusing the GAA of nepotism is a bit much given they hardly exert some sort of Illuminati-like influence over Ireland.
