Travelling from Buenos Aires to Rio

    Hey!

Basically, I'm doing a tour from Lima to BA starting next week, can't wait now! I've left almost 3 weeks free at the end to see some more of South America, especially Brazil. I'm just wondering if anyone could recommend what I should see in between, I was thinking of going through Uruguay as I'll already have seen the Iguazu Falls from the Argentine side.
I was thinking of travelling up the eastern coastline, through Uruguay and the likes of Porto Alegre and Sao Paolo on the way, but I haven't heard much about that route, so if anyone has any experiences or opinions to share, feel free...!
The other concern I have about this is my safety (I'm travelling alone!). I'll be doing this mostly in the last two weeks of June.

I spend a few weeks in Uruguay and it just wasn't my thing. I went from BA to Montevideo and the other older town nearer BA - can't remember name. Then travelled up the west coast through Fray Bentos. Crossed the border into Brazil in the middle of nowhere, didn't even get a stamp. Was illegally in Brazil for about 3 days before I crossed border again back into Argentina and head to Missiones and Paraguay. I was going to all the old Jesuit sites hence why the wierd trip. I then travelled up to Sao Paulo and Rio. That was the end of my 9 month trip so I took it easy but i've always regreted not having the money to go to the pantanal so i'd recommend that.

I was also travelling on my own and absolutely no hassle even though travelling in Brazil was tough because of my lack of portugeuse.

We went up the east coast of Uruguay, loved it! The old town near BA is Colonia del Sacramento, quite possibly the prettiest town I've ever been to. Montevideo is grand, went to a football match there so that was great, Punta del Este was overrated, but just up the road Punta del Diablo is amazing! Just an incredible place, don't pass it by if you're travelling that way, and stay in La Casa de las Boyas, we went for 2 nights, stayed for 6, it's like that Uruguayan version of the Aran Islands except with better weather!
