Lads im looking for a nice fast car in the 2-7k range.
Ive ruled out the RX8 as im not bothered with the rotary engine, i think it sounds crap and drinks to much petrol.
Id love an accord euro R but they're out of my budget.
The brother has a DC5 integra that i sometimes use, so im ruling one of them out.

I cam across one of these Hona Accord Type R's and i never really thought about them...what are they like to own? I like this one in particular as it was that huge imo ridiculous spoiler taken of the back of it. it ticks all the boxes and is at the bottom end of my budget.

I want something that's a bit of a sleeper and fairly rare, any suggestions?

A guy on here has one, another guy has the more recent model (but he's just been banned for 24 hours, nothing to do with me :pac:).

    Savage cars

A lad on a Rover forum I frequent has one the last 5 years, not a minutes trouble from it.

Big yes from me if you want a fast saloon.

I was always under the impression that an Accord euro R was the European equivalent of the JDM Accord Type R?

Honda Accord Type R owner here :)

I have that model (although I do believe that guy on donedeal was breaking that car first off, might want to check up on that)

    Here's mine:

    HondaAccordR65pica.jpg

Cracking car to drive, around 215bhp, nice and reserved lower down the range with good mpg, over 30 in fact, but great power on vtec.

She'll rev all the way up to 8,500rpm, vtec kicking in at 6k rpm, and feels very powerful that high up the rev range.

The big disappointment for me is the lack of torque, coming from a 260bhp 200sx it's a huge difference.

But I'd highly recommend it, some amount of front end grip. Practical too, 4 doors, plenty of boot space.

FYP :) That sums it up I'd say.

Had a go of one for a weekend. Nice car. Fun to drive. Felt like it was helping you. Plus it's a Honda of that vintage. Mechanically bulletproof. When the sun expands and engulfs this little planet and turns it into a crispy fireball, the last thing you will hear is a mid range Honda engine running in the background....

The JDM Accord was a different car to the Accord sold in Europe. The Accord Euro R was basically a tuned version of the European Accord which they then put on sale in Japan to compete with the likes of the Toyota Alteaza RS200 and Subaru Legacy B4, hence the name.

Also the one the OP is looking at is the older model Accord which again was exclusively designed for Europe. The Type R version was never sold outside of Europe afaik.

The Euro R is the high performance version of the JDM 03-08 accord. They didn't use the type R badge on that model.

Actually, Euro R was first used on the CL1 Accord from 00 to 02 as well, the one you're talking about is the CL7 Accord Euro R.

The one the OP is looking at is the CH1, the Accord Type R from 98 to 03 :)

Yep, the CL1 Accord, despite being called a Euro R, was never sold in Europe, and was puk ugly, and I never understood the attraction to it, given that you could get a cleaner CH1 for less money with the same engine tuned to run on UK fuel.

Thnaks for the replies lads. Gonna keep my eye out for a clean one over the next couple of months. They're rare enough though (which is a good thing).

Couple of questions: Are there holes in the boot lid where the spoiler attaches? As i will want to remove the huge spoiler but dont want holes left in the boot.
Also, whats the sound system like in them?
Do they come with loads of extras, are they quite luxurious?

Type Rs in general are usually stripped out of most toys as they are designed to be as light as possible to get the most from the engine. The Accord Type R would still have things like a/c, electric windows, cd stereo, etc but not much else.

Regarding the boot spoiler, yes it would have to be bolted to the boot but you could probably get the holes filled and the boot resprayed if you really wanted to.

Or you could source a smaller standard looking boot spoiler from a lower one in the range. You keep a non mad looking spoiler and no issue with holes.

There are 4 holes in the bootlid for the spoiler. (That spoiler is standard on the R).

I didn't like it at first, but over time I've gotten used to it, and have kept it on.

I did despoiler it, and I just put in rubber grommets to cover up the holes, only a couple of € from a hardware shop

I'll try find pic of when I despoilered it.

Not bad, mine's got a single cd Sony, speakers are good too, but I'm too old now for loud music in cars :D

I'd say luxurious would be the incorrect description. Most of them (especially the later ones of that model) have a/c, electric windows, front fogs.

But in terms of other cars I've had with loads of toys as standard, they don't have many. As said above, they're kept quiet simple.

If you're ever around Galway direction give me a shout and I'll bring you out for a spin :)

A lot of people are very surprised with the performance after they've had a spin in her :D

Would also consider a 4Dr DC2 Type R myself for the money bracket, hard enough to find but nice and rare too and 100% JDM.
