Hi everyone, the John Murray RTE walking club will be coming to north Monaghan next Saturday. The walk starts from the very popular (community owned and run) 14 bedroomed Sliabh Beagh hotel, Knockatallon at 12 noon.

There is already a very successful Knockatallon Ramblers walking club in the area who are coordinating the event, and this walk was also the one chosen for the annual Oireachtas walk last year. Full details of their clubs usual programme is available on http://www.emyvale.net/page183a.html
There's lots of music planned for next Saturday with a visit by many bands including the Monaghan Gospel choir, Big Tom, ceili bands, winner of the UCD Battle of the Bands "The Dominican Affair", McArdle comedy twins, Lisnagrieve pipe band..... and lots more!

There is also a vintage display by Monaghan Veteran and Vintage club, as well as a free barbeque for everyone. It's shaping up to be a super day.
The area has it's own website http://www.knockatallon.com/
The area is near the border with Tyrone and Fermanagh, and has a great community that will make you all very welcome.

Fantastic response to the John Murray RTE walk, his first in Ulster. A thrilling 375 walkers registered for the walk at the lovely Sliabh Beagh hotel. It was great to meet walkers from various walking clubs across the counties of Ireland, and a couple of walkers from the Netherlands, so thank you to everyone who made the day very special for Knockatallon.
Weather ideal, except for 1 shower past the half way mark. The walk took in open roads, mountain paths and a short walk through the heather. There were a number of breaks for entertainment during the ramble, with open air entertainment and dancing, and even Sir Jack Leslie, (aged 95, the man who celebrated his 85th birthday at the Manumission disco in Ibiza) joined in the party atmostphere and boogeying. Barry Devlin from the Horslips also walked and entertained along the way. Sammy Leslie from Castle Leslie was also a very welcome guest.
Afterwards there was lovely food at the Sliabh Beagh hotel, and enterainment is continuing well into the night. Thanks to everyone who made the day such a success.
