Just wondering if (i) I can get a 12v socket powered siren and PA system and (ii) if it's legal to use same (for a charity run/cycle)

I have one fitted to one of my cars, and my fire engines have them fitted too. Guards don't like us having them, but once they're not being used for the wrong thing then there's nothing can be done. Advisible to wired it to a fuse and seperate main switch as they can drain the battery if incorrectly fitted.

Blue lights are another story though

    (2) A vehicle, other than a vehicle referred to in sub-article (3)(Gardai, Ambulance etc), shall not be fitted with a bell, gong, siren, or other strident toned device."

So illegal to have a siren according to the RTA

I had a full. proper one on my truck in California.

Was funny to give it a quick "whoop-whoop" when someone went barrelling past at illegal speeds!!

there is no reason to have one of these other than to cause harm

Siren wise, I use the one of an old car alarm (I use it on rally stages as a warning to people walking on the stage that there are vehicles coming through behind them); it works very well, and is loud enough to work as a warning without being mistaken for emergency services.

I also have a PA fitted, which is a function on my CB radio. I do, however, need a bigger speaker, as the current speaker is too small so everything sounds garbled.

Speakers are all permanently fitted under the bonnet.
