I have an ipad1 running 4.2.1 that is not jailbroken. I want to jailbreak it but I also need to restore it due to a problem.

Can I restore it to 4.2.1 using itunes or will it update it to the newest ios?
Is there anyway I can restore it or update it to a jailbreakable ios without using itunes?

Update the iso to 4.3.2 you can jb that firmware on the iPad I have mine done

It will update to 4.3 or download the 4.2.1 but its more hassle to do it that way. Press restore while holding shift and select the iOS you want hit ok.

No! Why do you not want to use iTunes?

You can manually download the ipad firmware (if apple are still signing it) and instead of hitting restore , hold the left shift key and then click restore...it will give you the option of using an ispw on your pc instead of downloading it from itunes.
