Basically put in a new engine in it after the frost got the better of the other 1, My brother resprayed it 3 years ago but the paint work came out very dull.

Just wondering has anyone any tips on spraying, and would a coat of laquor help shine it up a bit as the brother never laquored it the last time.

    Cheers.

    PS anyone want a 265...?

Temperature being warm enough is important for a decent finish, as is a decent compressor with a good size tank and not thinning the paint too much. Other key thing is take your time and apply 3-4 coats. What kind of paint are you using?

The brother bought good stuff from a man who restores tractors, what ratio of thinners to paint would you suggest? and would a clear laquor help it?

I would usually use about 20:1 for spraying machinery enamel, it doesn't take that much really. Lacquer might help with a shine but can look a bit too shiny on a tractor - just my opinion! is it a showroom finish you want? 2 pack might be an option.

Not really showroom shine but the way it is now shes wild dull, would it help keep rust etc of it? and whats a 2 pack?

lacquer won't stop rust unfortunately, especially on old machines, shed storage is yer only man! 2 pack paint is a primer coupled with topcoat, solvent based for bodywork, but it needs a professional to apply properly. most off the shelf stuff should give a decent shine if you build up coats slowly. It may be that 1 or 2 heavy coats were applied giving a duller finish

Think well DIY it, not going to spend to much on it, the paint is Vapormatic brand, any good?

yeah its quite good, they're all similar, tractol, sparex etc. Make sure the primer is of the same type. Paint can react badly if you use the wrong kind. Buy the vapormatic one and you'll be fine. Like i said, 3-4 thin coats are better than 1-2 heavy ones. Best of luck. throw up a pic when ya get her done.
