Cycling Shoes advise

    Hi Guys,

    I recently invested in a new bike. I am a novice when it comes to cycling so I would appreciate some advise on the following:

    I bought "Specialized Shoes" for my bike. I am still getting used to them, I have the bruises to show - lol:) But what I am finding is that my right foot cramps up when I am on a long run - 90km. I stop as I am cycling and undo my shoe and stretch my foot but after another 10km I feel my foot cramping again.

    My shoe size is 39, I notice that my left foot is ok. Do you think the size is the problem? Should I purchase another pair of shoes a half a size bigger? Will this solve the problem? Or is this normal?

    Could be lack of circulation, Pinched nerves, Dehydration, Lack of salt.
    Deep breathing and a jambon should do the trick. ;)

    If the shoes aren't tight across the toes then they're probably the right size as you don't really need too much space in the front unlike a running shoe where the action of running tends to have your feet pushing forward in the shoe. However your feet do swell after a while when exercising, particularly in warm weather, so loosening the straps or simply not tightening them so much when you set out should help. Also, cycling shoes are generally a lot more rigid than ordinary shoes/trainers and do take a bit of getting used to.
    If you are a novice then a 90km spin is quite a long one and fatigue/dehydration would very easily lead to cramping. I'd say stick with the shoes you have a bit longer unless they're really painful and hopefully the issue will sort itself out.
