I came across this guy "SirSlotsAlot" on Youtube thanks to a mention on a recent thread http://www.youtube.com/user/SirSlotsAlot

This guy has some shot !
He mostly uses a 17 Rem and likes to go for long range shots.
Is there a reason that this calibre is not so popular over here?
has it any major disadvantages over say .223

    Enjoy videos !

Basically its very expensive to shoot, is a barrel burner and suffers alot in the wind. Nevertheless.:D

he shoots more than .17 rem, look threw the rest of his videos.

re loading is allowed over there and it makes it easier to shoot the less popular or more expencive calibers .

very popular with the coyote hunters as it leaves a very small bullet hole to stitch up afterwards!

a guy who plays rugby with me is selling his tikka .17 same as in the video if anybody is interested i can pm ye his number, never used a .17 rem, meant to be a great calibre but expensive and hard to find ammo

They are very flat shooting but draw backs include ,

    Ammo prices ,
    Hard to source ammo.
    Bad in wind ,
    Barrel burner,
    fowling ,

Other than that they are great for varmient shooting .

My cousin had one for many years for foxes, when it was easier to licence than a .22lr as most Super's thought they were an air Rifle!

They did scream, a necked down .222 if my memory serves me.

Ammo was hard source and wind and fouling were a major issue.
The cousins rifle had a narrow barrel so it would be red after a few shots.

He only ever used it on foxes so that was no major issue.

Then lads went for swifts as their was a gluck of them around home in the 90's and the .17 R faded.

If it was a calm day, they made long range bunny shooting at almost any distance between 50 and 400 a breeze in comparison to other heavier calibres

    I saw a lovely .17Rem Fireball recently.

He has 64 videos on youtube in total, mostly they are 17 and 223 long range shooting. All his rifles are Tikkas and optics are Zeiss. Some videos are unf****real, like hitting hen egg at 500 yards or mint at 300 yards not to mention all bunny head shots 350 to 650 yards...Highly recomend to watch. He's some shooter SirSlotsAlot

    Lads,

Where is the proof that they are "barrel burners"?

This is somewhat of a myth ;)
