What do you mean by a cabin crew course? DO you mean apply for the role with an airline or do one of those 1 week crew pre-training courses?

My opinion on those course is that they are not really worth it. Doing a 1 day course if available will help you with interview technique. Airlines don't look at who has done those courses as they will train you to their own standards.

Well its a 3day course , but ya. like would it not be good to have a background. or knowledge of what your getting into. like i do find it hard to believe that a 3day course could make you a cabin crew. there has to be seriously lots more

Thanks Andy, But think i'll be staying far far far away from Ryanair. and from Ireland. cant deal with only 3 airlines only 2 irish, one is always on strike and the other runs on batteries. but na i have the course http://silverfareaviation.co.uk

Just wondering would there be many young people going for cabin crew. Like i'll probably be the only young person in a crowd of 20- 30 year olds. happened to me already and that was only for a college open day

I can tell ya, most people who successfully apply to be cabin crew at decent airlines (inlcuding those who are "always on strike" ) have never done these courses, so I'd save your money and actually apply for a job...if you're good enough, they will hire you.

But would it not be better to have experience behind you. Like the likes of BA would prefer to see you have experience.

I'd love to be served by you on a flight...

"like would ya like chicken or beef like"

..I think my head would explode!

Seriously though, best of luck with it, I know Atlantic in Cork are on about getting one of those courses up and running soon

Don't bother with the course. Speaking from experience, all airlines will train you to a certain safety standard. Anything after that is dependent on the "ethos" of the airline. They will be more interested in actual customer facing experience than a 3 day course learning about being cabin crew.

Customer Service Experiance and Education Is what Airlines like Aer Lingus BA Virgin Qantas etc look for! Airlines prefer people with collage degrees! Both BA and Aer Lingus spokespeople have said they want collage graduates who are looking to fly/Travel for 1 or 2 years after collage to work as cabin crew before they move on to their career in Nursing, teaching, hairdressing, marketing! etc!
So my advice is go to collage! Get some qualifacation behind you then become crew and if you get sick of it you will have something to fall back on!

I was hopin to do it all in reverse. see i know i wont get points. and probably will just scrape a pass in the lc. so i was hoping to go to work then come back as a mature student. but least it explains why there are few little young people doing cabin crew. but dont know think i would like it. being able to follow my mans foot steps. and travel the world. like i would love to be a pilot but i have a handi cap so.... thats out the window

Hey i know how you feel! im doing the LC too! Its tough alrite im only scraping by and hoping to get a place in collage! If not i will do a PLC for a year and hopefull at the end of it i will eventualy become crew! I just hope the Aviation Indusry still exists then ! God knows with the way oil is going! I dont mean to be personal but when you say you have a handi cap that prevents you from being a pilot what do you mean(you dont have 2 post on here)! I dont mean to sound harsh but genrelly cabin crew and pilots are requires to have the same level/type of fitness! now im not 100% sure but im 95%! Do research into it now when you can!
    best of luck anyway!

I had a few freinds that were CC in EI with no third level quals what they did have prior to getting the job was bar/waitress experience some have since left and gone back to college,As for the CC having to do medical they do a basic one requirements for pilots is that little harder;)

The T&C for you now if you get the job will be completely different to those who are already there. Don't think EI have recruited in over 6 years! They would be on much better wages and conditions then new recruits (that's even if they are hiring!)

Not true, EI doesnt operate a two tier system in the cabin crew section.

Well I highly doubt anyone joining the ranks are going to be on the same pay scale as someone there 6+ years. I bet contracts would be different, and a lot less pay. Would make sense for a company that's trying to build back up it's profit!

You are neither right nor wrong! Aer Lingus hired crew for Belfast and Gatwick this month! They are currently in Training! Yes they have different contracts to the crew there for 6 years because they have a UK Contract which is different! they havent hired for any Republic of ireland bases since 2008 i think! But when they do the crew hired will have a simular contract to those there now! It may not be the same but it will be simular because contracts are agreed with the union as Aer Lingus is closed shop!
If they company wanted to bulid up profit they should stop taking off the front line customer facing staff and take off the oldwood middle management who have lost touch with the industry , fail to meet their targets , but yet receive bonuses ! The whole tax scam didnt help either not to mention the hike in airport charges they are facing!
We will have to wait and see.
