    Hi,

My mum has me insured as a named driver on her van for the last year and half.

I have a car which I am the owner of and want insurance for me and my girlfriend will be a named driver on.

Should my own car insurance be cheaper becuase I am already a named driver on another car?

I am far from an expert but to the best of my knowledge, no. It will be more expensive I would imagine. Most insurance companies won't accept named driving towards your no claims bonus. I think Quinn offer a deal tho if your partner also gets insured on your policy. I remember my sister saying something like that. The experts will be here in a sec and let ya know anyway I am sure

    thanks, just to clarify though.

    Mums van, im named driver!

Bought car 1 year ago and got insured and didnt tell insurance company i was actually a named driver on another policy at the time.

Now plan to tell them this information.

Plan to put my girlfriend as named driver on this car.

My qoute from AVIVA for me and girlfriend before i contact them and mention im currently also a named driver on another policy concurrently is €820. So im hoping it may knock a few hundred off?

    Could be wishfull thinking :S

Aviva do give credit for named driving experience as do some other insurers.

However the fact that you have one year on your own probably outweighs any discount from named driving, and I can't imagine they would apply both discounts.

Best to give them a call a see sure, your girlfriend might well end up making it cheaper.

    It all depends.

My wife was named on my policy since July 2007.
On April 2008 she got her own policy, and kept it for a year to April 2009 (no NCD applied).
Then on January 2010 she applied for another policy with Aviva, and she got 2 years NCB.
One from her own policy, and another one from being named driver on my policy.

Ok, so you were a named driver for 6 months before you got your own car and started your own NCB. I don't think you would have gotten any discount even if you had told them back than as they seem to only work in years for that type of thing.

I doubt it will have any impact TBH, it's not like you're going to be driving both vehicles at the same time. But as others have said, check with your insurance company anyway.

When I renewed last time, it worked out cheaper for me to have my parents as named drivers for some reason, maybe check that out too.

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.
