Does anyone know if Picasa will allow you to open - or in some way edit - closed eyes in a photo....or if not, is there another way of doing it?

I haven't used Picasa in yonks, but in PS you could clone in the eyes from another photo, so maybe. If you don't have PS, there's Gimp, which is free and would probably do the job...

Normal way of doing it would be to take a bunch of pictures and hope that in at least one of them everyone had their eyes open. Failing that, paste entire heads into one of the pictures until you have something that works. There's nothing really that can 'edit' closed eyes, unless you fancy yourself a dab hand at the photorealistic drawing ...

If the new Windows "Cloud" adverts are to be believed it's as simple as dragging a square around the offending eyes and switching them for new ones.

    In reality, it isnt.

There are numerous reasons for this, one of the main ones being that no part of your body moves independantly of the rest of your bodym even something as small and fast as a blink of the eye will create movement in the face which when captured in a photograph would look unnatural if the eyes were "opened".

It is a common enough edit. You need some donor eyes from another shot and a multiple layer editing program.
