Havin' a ride

Discovered today that a friend, a fully grown, 24 year old man (who shall remain nameless), could not ride a bike.
After spending 20 minutes pointing and laughing at John, i wondered why he couldnt. Maybe the victim of a parentless childhood, maybe he had a fear of his face grinding along the tarmac like cheddar to a grater, or maybe because has the balance of a one-legged obese woman, who knows.....

    ...or cares

So, simple question, can you ride a bike?

I drive/ride motorcycles but push bikes scare me. The wheels are so thin and there's a big bar that couldn't be designed better for cracking open my bits.
I'll stick to something with an engine.

I can't ride a bike...The only person who tried to teach me was a cousin who damn near killed me a few times before I went "f**k it, i'll just walk"

Yup, and Hugh Laurie laughed at me learning how to ride, and I'll bring that up any time a conversation goes anywhere near it.

I haven't been on a bike in about 15 years, I could probably only last a few minutes without my legs turning to jelly if I was to go on one!

Maybe he had Dyspraxia (developmental co-ordination disorder) which can be very mild in cases but presents problems with balance oriented activities such as riding a bike:)

Edit: meant to say presents rather than prevents....

Spent most of my late teens up till I was about 35 , on bikes of one kind and another ,mainly 10 gear racers which I loved and would take myself off all over Dublin city and county .The lock up bike space at Trinty College was my favorite parking spot when in town to .Loved zipping in and out of stationary cars stuck in traffic :)

Would we need stabilisers yeah? I mean will it be hard to balance?

My father taught me to cycle a bike. He shouted at me whenever I fell off or made a mistake until I got it right. It was the only emotion he was capable of showing me.

Nope. I'm ridiculously unbalanced. Like if you gently push me I will stumble.
