Old reliable Dyson vacuum cleaner died today. Couldn't fix it this time so ordered new Dyson DC22 'wood & wool' version. Compared prices online beforehand. Findings:
£192.00 (xe.com exchange rate today for guideline only: €216.31) from Amazon. According to site 4 new available. Free 'Super Saver' delivery to Ireland.
    €299.00 from Harvey Norman.
    €349.99 from Argos.
    €359.00 from Littlewoods Ireland.
    €369.99 from dyson.ie.
Guess which one I ordered from!

If it's a reliable cleaner you're looking for buy a Nilfisk. They last forever and are much less expensive than those mentioned above, e.g. http://www.powercity.ie/?par=40-50-X10000&brands=NILFISK. Ok so you've to buy bags but they are worth it for such an effective cleaner.

My Dyson DC05 packed in. Similar models would be near €300. Bought replacement motor on ebay all back working like new €40 :D

Amazon are providing some good value lately, personally I'd buy a Miele bag vacuum cleaner but that's off topic ;)

Can someone tell me why the prices on Amazon always seem to increase as soon as you add something to your basket? This hopped from £192 to £200, with free super saver delivery:mad:

Uk vat is replaced with the Irish rate. Their is a few tools, and sites you can use to give you the irish price/ or price in euro. Few listed in the sticky.

Can't understand how price hopped to £200 for you. For me when Irish VAT was applied, price rose from £192.00 to £193.60.

Yes, that is a decent price, missed that one. Arnotts claim a saving of €100.99 on normal price. Here is a link to Arnotts online store if it helps anyone considering purchasing one of these. Thanks ALS.

all argos prices in their catalogue are inflated so they can put them on special offer later and still make a furtune out of it.

By 'this model', do you mean the Dyson DC22 as per thread title?
If so, have you seen this price (for the DC22) advertised in-store somewhere? If so please provide store location on thread for anyone interested.
If you've seen that price (for the DC22) advertised online, please provide a link on thread.
Not listed on Currys Irish website.
    DC22 listed on Currys UK website @ £279.99 (= €318.78 based on rate: 1 EUR = 0.878319 GBP).

However if you are referring to same model as ALS was referring to above from Arnotts, i.e. the Dyson DC29, yes, that is available at €199.99 on Currys Irish website
(listed under 'Home Appliances' > 'Vacuum Cleaners' > 'Cylinder Vacuum Cleaners').

Hey, I'm no vacuum cleaner expert! :o This web page should help explain the differences:

Couldn't agree more. I have a Nilfisk Business vac myself and a reusable bag so I don't have to buy bags for it. Thing is about 10 years old now and it hasn't given me a days trouble, was given to me as a present. Was tempted to buy a Dyson but you only get a few years out of them and then bam, buy a new vac.

Not on a crusade to get anyone to buy a Dyson - just giving anyone interested notice of significant price differences/reductions I came across when considering purchasing this particular product. Nilfisk, Miele and many other manufacturers make perfectly good vacuum cleaners. We can all agree it is always good to get whichever one you want at the best possible price, with a decent guarantee & good customer service.

I got a DC19T2 in DID Electrical for €219, its better than the DC29 as it has the Turbo brush for pet hair. Personally I would have gone for a Miele or Nilfisk but the wifey wanted a Dyson!

Are you sure that you are not looking at the price when you buy with the Amazon card - includes a 10% discount? Its quite easy to make the mistake and personally i think they should make it less prominent.

Ask any professional cleaners in offices schools etc which vacuum cleaners are the best and they will tell you the old bulletproof nilfisks with the detatchable wheels, think it is the GA70
    nilfisk70.jpg

or its more modern later arrival the GS80
    nilfisk80.jpg

and the more modern again GM90
    nilfisk90.jpg

brilliant machines which needed only minimal servicing and could fall down flights of stairs as a party peice and still vacuum as good as any Dyson! Afaik the GS80 and GM90 are still available to buy although they may not be cheap they would be the last vacuum cleaner you ever buy.

We had the GM90 which worked for 25years before being put in the shed for a few years as it was too big for the house at that time but it still worked some years later although the cotton filter had gone a bit rotten and mouldy. they were/are built like tanks. the electrical brushes in the motor were like something from some industrial motor not a household vacuum they were 10 x 6 x 32mm and cost about £30 at that time for a pair.

If the bags aren't porous enough they'll starve the motor of air(single stage motors) and the motor will overheat. Too porous and dust will get through the filter and into the motor. If you're buying a reusable bag you're better off getting a genuine one where possible, they last forever so it's a once off cost.

Just going to add that I bought into the Dyson "dream" about 3 years ago. Load of me bollix tbh.

My mum swears by Nilfisk too.

If only I had listened to her.

Not sure if anyone spotted this one yet, but Currys are also doing the DC24 @ €232 which is a really good price, just picked one up in Blanch the other day.
