    Hi all,

I have a medical on Tuesday for a new job, now my problem is...what exactly does this entail? Will they carry out a urine test? the reason I ask is that I do occasionally smoke weed(i know-i shouldn't)but I only do when I socialise, Im not one for having a few spliffs a day or anything. If they do carry out a urine test is there any way I can get a clean one by Tuesday? I last smoked on Thursday :(

Any work medical i have gone for do carry out a urine sample to check for drug use, i am not sure how long you have till the weed leaves your system:eek:
just did a quick Google search and most sites say that it stays in the system for between 4-7 days but can be detected in your system for up to a month it all depends on how much you smoked on Thursday and how regular you smoke it.

I've only gone for a medical for one job I've had, and all they did was weigh me, check my blood pressure and peak flow (due to telling them I was asthmatic), and that was it.

I guess it depends on what the job is for, as to whether you would have to give a urine sample or not.

depending on use, frequency of use, amount of use, weed can basically stay for a long time, it stays in the fats or something, anyway a month minimum is what id recommend for a light user

so in essence youll fail if there looking for drugs, then again might not be looking for drugs, and end of the day its weed, dont apologise for using it, if it really bothered you you wouldnt, be proud you use it, and if they wont hire you for something you chose to do that doesnt effect your job, their loss im afraid

    goodluck

Oh Im not ashamed of the fact I smoke weed although with jobs being so scarce I don't want to jeopardize my chances of getting this particular one. Ive been out of work 5 months so I really want to get back into the work force. I suppose I could be honest with a slice of lie...I could always say that yes I have smoked in the past but the last time was a few weeks back.

I only had one job that required a urine test during the medical. I jokingly asked was it for drugs and the nurse informed me that it is illegal to screen for drugs etc. without permission.

The urine test was for diabetes (or something like that) as long term illnesses arn't something companies like to get involved with.

I didn't fail the medical as I was offered the job afterwards.

I don't care what anybody's beliefs about the marijuana laws are: it is illegal in this country, so please don't be putting boards.ie at risk by giving advice about how to mask it.

I've deleted a couple of posts for giving medical advice and suggesting fraud - again, please just DON'T.

    Grrr.

condoms were once illegal would you of removed posts if they contained information on how to not get your girl pregnant.

come on, its common information that can be got by a simple google

Thing is though the black Market for condoms didn't revolve around scumbag criminals who killed for pleasure whereas unfortunately the black Market for marijuana does. So consuming marijuana in this country at the moment means supporting gangland crime. Until the law changes that's a fact.

Apologies for going OT. a previous poster was correct in stating it's illegal for companies to screen for drugs without permission

There is no way to be clean prior to your test.

To be honest, while I am not a supporter of the nanny state by any means, you need to think about this from the employers side, I fully support drink and drug free safe workplaces.

While it may be your personal decision as to your activities outside of work, every employer has a duty of care to its employees and customers, to ensure a safe workplace and safe products.

I have experience of people being "moved on to their next career opportunity"as a result of coming in to work regularly in the morning smelling of drink, I would support the same course of action for anyone coming to work still under the influence of drugs.

Perhaps you should prioritize your career over your recreation?

    Just my 2c.

Gee thanks for your 2 cents. Nobody's talking about going into work under the influence of anything. Perhaps you should prioritise reading the posts before adding your unrelated opinions.

Perhaps you should read them also..

    My 2 points are:

    (1) At least while job, hunting that the OP should eliminate the occasional spliff to be certain that he will not lose out on a job opportunity due to a drug-test during a medical.

    (2) That I support companies that have a "Drink and Drug Free" workplace policy, I have seen what can result from companies that are too tolerant.

While I am no drink/drug expert, from my experience it is easy to see in the workplace those that think that they are not affected the next day following recreational "excessive" drink/drug use the previous night.

My apologies if you considered my post OT, but I was just adding a few thought after replying to the original question.

    Yes.

It's not about the morality of the topic.

It's about complying with the rules of boards.ie, which include not giving advice that breaks the law. Simple as.

And you're getting a warning for arguing with a mod on forum, too. If you have a problem with my post, use the report-post button.
