Mod, not sure if this is the right place for this thread so please move it if necessary.

I just wanted to know if anyone knows where I can get access to Irish legislation with regards to the health and safety at football ground or sporting venues generally in Ireland.

There is plenty of information online for UK stadia which was due to the aftermath of Hillsborough and Bradford City disasters.

Did Ireland adopt similar legislation to thos implemented in the UK?

Or is legislation governed by Uefa for football and IRB for rugby?

Any information would be a great help.

    Cheers,

    LD.

There is no overall legislation like in England.

The local authority health and safety people have ultimate veto and they look at the standard of a ground on an ad hoc basis. For example, terracing is allowed if safe.

However, football stadia have to fall into line with FAI rules, which are an interpretation of FIFA rules. No terracing, 1,500 covered seats etc. If you fail to achieve this or haven't plans to do so, you cannot play in the LoI or host cup games beyond a certain round. There is no legal basis for this, its the FAI's own rule book, which does not apply to other sports.

With all the legislation that surrounds sport, like the FAI's attempts to have a database of banned hooligans, but another sports body didn't want pitch invasions banned, minimum standards in stadia would hit that certain body hardest, so no legislation was ever introduced
