First of all, welcome to airsoft!

Now, there are 5 airsoft sites in cork county and city:
Rebel airsoft is based just outside Bandon town.
There is an airsoft site outside Midleton (It's near Aghada)
The same lads who run the site in Midleton also have an old hotel which is used for CQB games that is just outside Mallow.
There is a CQB arena in the cork city Marina industrial park.
Cork airsoft have a woodland site in Ballyvourney.

As for shops, the CQB arena place in the Marina industrial park has a shop there too where you can buy BBs,etc. (http://www.munsterairsoft.com/index.asp)

Outside of cork county there is a few places too.
In the Limerick/clare region there is a good bit of airsoft.
I know of three retailers around and one good AEG tech (DeBurca)
    The retailers are:
    Midwest airsoft ( http://mwairsoft.net/ )
Airsoftguns.ie (http://airsoftguns.ie/) They have a shop in foxs bow in limerick city.
And there is a second shop which sells some airsoft stuff (some good some bad) in foxs bow also and they are very near airsoftguns.ie shop

    As for sites, there is:
    Limerick airsoft Camp (http://www.limerickairsoftcamp.ie/)
I think that advetureland in limerick/clare also does airsoft now
    Tombstone airsoft in clare (http://www.tombstoneairsoft.com/location.html)

That's all the stuff that I can think about off the top of my head. I'd check out the retailers and airsoft sites threads too for places to go.

Seeing as I'm usually between cork or limerick I know a couple of places from each from going there myself and hearing about them from others.

I will say that the lads who run Bandon, midleton/mallow and limerick airsoft camp are all sound lads and I've had good experiences dealing with them.

    Hope this helps smile.gif

When starting off, you don't really need to buy anything. I would just head out to a site that has rentals (Gun and mask), and just ask people to have a look at their gear. Don't be shy, people are all about showing off their expensive crap in airsoft. In particular, you should pay attention to face protection. There are a lot of options out there, and its hard to find something that will suit you personally (Well it is for me anyways).

In an ideal world, the first things you should buy are boots with good ankle support, a decent mask that you find comfortable, and maybe knee pads. But lets face it, you are not interested in airsoft because of the awesome boots. Forget about sniper rifles, grenade launchers and pistols for the time being. The first gun you should buy, should be an AEG (Auto Electric Gun). Just pick a real steel gun that you like the look of, and it should be easy to find a decent airsoft version. But to reiterate, boots and a mask are very important early purchases.

So just head out to a site or two, to see what is what, and go from there. Initially, it can be a relatively inexpensive hobby to get into, and it is possible to remain budget conscious throughout... if you have the willpower.

Of which I have none, haha :D

+1 on proper boots and face protection, they are basics.

They are right, take your time with any purchase decision in airsoft. I'd always research reviews and specifically look for any weak points in an AEG before purchasing. You can always put up a review request in the reviews section to get other peoples' opinions on something. It always helps to get other peoples' opinion on a purchase because they might know something you don't.

When it comes to the time where you want to by your first airsoft gun, I would recommend a shop bought AEG. (Auto-Electric Gun).

Depending on what you want to spend the shop will advise you on what brand is the best quality for your budget. I would recommend starting with a G&G Raider M4 - It's an excellent gun, incredible quality and relatively cheap compared to other AEGs. I say M4 as it is the most common AEG used in Airsoft in Ireland and it is is easy to get parts, magazines etc for the AEG should/when it breaks.

Also, You will find people on sites who will lend you bits and bobs you may be missing- When I started I was lent a number of magazines for my M4 as I only had one.

When I started myself I started with a BDU and an AEG. In my opinion though, if I was too do it again I would start with Boots and my own facemask and my own BDU first. Boots are vital to keep your feet warm, safe and stop you twisting your ankle. The BDU is essential for helping conceal yourself and the facemask to protect your eyes and face (I use a pair of mesh goggles and a separate lower mesh faceguard)

Ask anyone you meet in airsoft for their advice on what to buy- what you need changes per persons view. Some people would say its vital to have a diearm, others would say you do not. It's alot of personal opinion.

To sum it up, although I've essentially told you what to buy, make up your own minds. If you wanna' go out and get yourself your own AEG or even Sniper rifle, gas rifle before boots, bdu or a facemask, go right ahead. Airsoft is about fun above all else. Do what is fun for you.

    Welcome aboard! :)
