Do a search on iPad, you'll get plenty of opinions. Same thing has been asked a few times.

You can get an adaptor which provides a USB port to allow digital cameras to connect. By jailbreaking you can also attach external hard drives too. Airprint is a system the iPad supports which allows you to print directly to Airprint compatible printers.

It's not possible to install any other OS on the iPad so Vista, XP etc can't be run on them.

Best advice is to buy a wireless router for the O2 USB stick which allows you to share your connection via WiFi thus allowing the iPad and any other wireless enabled devices to connect ! I've seen these for sale in PC World and Harvey Normans. O2 also sell a wireless hotspot unit which can take your SIM and provide wireless access for up to 5 devices with Wifi.

Alternatively you could get the iPad with the 3G facility built in and get a micro-sim to allow connectivity. This is the option I went for with mine. 15 euro per month (On the 3 network) ready to go 1GB is ample for my needs but you could also go bill pay for the same package for 9.99 per month for 1GB.

The iPad will never ever replace your laptop. Its a medium term device, for out and about. A few quick emails and a presentation. As a replacement to your laptop or desktop, its not and never will be. In fact you need a laptop etc to sync to.

You can't watch DVD's directly on it (No drive) You'll have to convert them first
Typing, its on a screen now so its not as comfortable as a keyboard
You can't install XP or Vista and never ever will

Its a great device, don't get me wrong, but some people equate it to a MacBook or another other laptop, it just isn't. Its a bridge between an iPhone and a MacBook but a replacement for neither.

Rebel, Ironclaw is correct the " tablets" have their own niche Market( where that is is anyone's guess). They are not a direct replacement for a Laptop , PC, Mac, but rather a large version of an iPhone without the calls, I think it's called a " touch".

You don't really need one, but you must have one, go to a retailer and have a play with one ,do your homework first and then decide if you really need one and what you will use it for and then decide which model suits for requirements.

As said. iPad/Tablets are an in between device.

My ideal setup with an iPad would be @Home: Check email, watch videos, read, video chat and use it as a handy home server interface and a little gaming.

Out'n'about. Emails, read, game and watch videos on bus train etc.

For my situation it would effetivly 'replace' my laptop as my laptop 'replaced' my PC. At the moment my laptop sits under my tv as a media server connected to TV and i use my iphone as a mouse.

And the most important aspect...cos you GOT to have one :p
