    Hello,
I wish to remove my rear ground floor, floor to ceiling window which is 2m wide, I plan to install a 3 m patio door same height. How Do i secure the opening structurally while increasing the ope size by 1 m?. When I remove the window I'm presented with a 2m wide opening with an overhead lintel, where do I start from here with regards to increasing ope size by 1 m.

Sorry if this sounds blunt - but you need to start with getting yourself an engineer, there are lots of things to be taken into consideration that internet talk can't solve.
There is no point in taking shortcuts, a couple of hours work for an engineer will solve you all sorts of headaches down the line!

True, I was going to contract an engineer, I wanted to brief myself first on what's involved.

    +1

Just to put some outline on whats required.

    In a typical situation

The wall above the ope will need to be supported while the existing lintel is being removed and the ope widened.

In addition the new lintel will need to be supported at both sides beyond the ope.

Typically in a 2 storey house when this work is not done right a crack appears from the lintel up to the window above.

The issue with your proposal is that if the existing lintel is at ceiling height, the ceiling will be in the way for the normal propping techniques
You could save a lot of grief by sticking with the 2m ope as is:)

    read the forum rules...

no structural advice is to be given out here. It would be dangerous and unprofessional to. You need to have someone to see the situation and have insurance behind them to design and certify the construction.
