Im looking for this sound

On the bus today the mp3 player went onto The Czar by Mastodon. From 8:05 to 8:50 is rifftastic. I quickly realised that I havent got ANY other tunes that come close to this sound. Can I please have some recommendations? Not so much bands, but particular songs. That'd be nice!

Yes.. But it's the brand of solo. I don't have anything else that's got that sound. It sort of stands out against the myriad of QOTSA and Sepultura that I have.

Was that Dream Theatre song(as I am) used in a game or movie? Weirdest thing happened.. I started singing along to it. I'v never even listened to them before!

Am.....believe it or not but when i listen to the solo alone i hear Thin Lizzy kinda, or some of Metallica's solos like Unforgiven II. Minor pentatonic widiling like. Examples:

Thats one reason i like Mastodon, their harmony solo's are fantastic and the riffs bounce off eachother.

I have no idea if the dream theater song was in a movie or anything, could well have been

That's a 70's-ish Gibson sound - reminds me of the solo to Rush's Xanadu. Alex is playing a double-neck in this video, but I suspect the solo guitar (8:15 on) is his 335.

See with that kinda solo we could list examples till the end of time but the overall sound of the songs will be vastly different. Basically anything rooted in blues: classic rock & onwards.
