Has anyone managed to get Thunderbird to work with TCD's mail service? It doesn't seem to work with the standard Gmail instructions. Thanks!

I dunno if gmail works, but if it does, you could just use gmail and forward all your TCD mail to the gmail account.

Works fine for me via normal internet, but I've never been able to get Thunderbird to work through the college proxy. IIRC, I once heard that it's something to do with the college proxy not supporting SMTP.

So is your problem when trying to access it through the college proxy, or just getting it to work in general?

IMAP and SMTP work through a SOCKS proxy.

Alternatively, use IPv6. IPv6 isn't firewalled properly at the moment.

Thunderbird is rubbish anyway. Better off getting the full MS Office suite for £30 imo.

Probably because you are using the automatic account setup tool.

Use the settings I posted above and it works fine.

Another option is to use HTTP Tunneling software such as Proxifier.
