Hey there hoping someone might have clue as to whats going on :D

I got an awful toothache a couple of months ago, it woke me up round 12 at night and kept me awake until round half eight in the morning the pain was so bad..it was a throbbing pain that intensified roughly every 10 minutes. I took about 6-8 pain killers (2 every couple of hours) but it made no difference at all! The pain went up to my ear and down my neck.

I eventually went to the doctor after getting some sleep (dentist was closed) and she gave me pain killers and antibiotics and said it might be an abcess. The pain was gone after taking these and i was delighted.

I had to see my orthodontist a few weeks after the incident as i have braces, i told her the story and she told me to go to my dentist as she was in fear that if it was an abcess she would cause me more pain if she tightened my brace . (pain was well gone at this stage)

So off i went and my dentist took an x-ray, put some freezing stuff on my teeth and they all felt it, but one. Nothing came up on x-ray.. she said my tooth looks very healthy and she was just as baffled as me. Pain was gone i didnt care i thought it was just a once off until tonight!!!!

The pain is back!! No where near as bad as it was the first time, but i can't chew on the side its on and if i put pressure on it at all it gets pretty bad. There is no bracket for my brace attached to this tooth yet as it is the last tooth on my bottom left hand side (with wisdom being removed).

Dentist is closed until tuesday at 9:00 and i have an appointment with my orthodontist at 9:00 the same morning and she is hoping to attach the bracket to my last teeth the same day....

I don't see the point in cancelling my ortho app to go to the dentist to find nothing again!:(

Any one have any experiences with this????

Ring round for an emergency dentist.

There are some dentists/clinics that work Saturdays.

    Where are you?

mod edit no names are open over the weekend. Your not using sensodine or any of those sensitive toothpaste's I've had awful problems because of them. Mystery pains the dentist or x-rays couldn't find, gone back to normal toothpaste and no problems since.

What types of food have you eaten prior to the pain? Had very bad sensitivity myself for the last few days and gnawing pain last night, managed to get into a dentist today, like you no evidence of anything wrong that would show up on a scan. Dentist believed my tooth/the area was "bruised" and sure enough I could link it back to something I had bitten down on. Could also be caused by you grinding your teeth unbeknownst to you at night? Do you have jaw pain or anything like that fairly regularly? He soved mine (at least it feels fine at moment!) by putting antisensitivity gel on it.

In terms of sensodyne, I use pro enamel and its been good to me anyway. USed the colgate special paste that is supposed to reduce sensitivity there and then and it had no effect on me. Strange!

    Thanks for the feedback people,

Went to the doctor this morning as I don't think I could put up with this pain until tuesday considering its a bank holiday and all..

Its some kind of an inflamation of the gum in relation of the tooth.. not an abcess thank god!!
The doctor called it gingivitus ?somthing?

Got some antibiotics and pain killers so at least it will be relieved:D

Did he mean peridontitis? This is a severe and progressive gum disease due to poor oral hygiene. Gingivitis is the "curable" form e.g. if you look after your teeth and gums, they should recover unless its too advanced - this is when gingivitis becomes peridontitis. Find out which one it is! Either way give Cordosyl mouthwash a go for a few months I'd say. Be warned - it is very effective and over the counter, but it will stain teeth badly, particularly if you drink tea, coffee or smoke an hour before or after so read instructions carefully. Any staining can be removed by a scale and polish by your dentist/hygienist.

If its a gum problem and acute its either acute periodontal abscess or much more commonly in young people (smokers) under a bit of stress is ANUG (acute necrotising ulcerative gingivitis) treatable by antibiotics and cleaning. Antibiotics alone will not fix it you need the bugs cleaned out.

The people is often that Doctors know very little about teeth and gum in general but sound like a probable diagnosis to me,
