"Penciled in for February 29th next year" according to The Star, so might be BS of course.

There is an undeniable pride factor is beating our bigger, more famous neighbour whose culture and media we're absorbed into, so I don't want to see this happen as I'm sure we'd get crushed under a Trap team, especially with their talent and if we play 4-4-2 as per usual. We struggle with it against moderate nations, never mind top teams. Plus - because of Trap's relentless 'family mentality' mantra - who can say with conviction that Kilbane that will be out of the picture?

Because it's the Star I would check if it's a Leap year first - after that bring 'em on!!! In Wemberley - savage! at home, well away fans to be limited to commentators!

yeah right OP we'll get crushed alright as our team under trap plays such wild attacking football leaving big gaps that teams are always scoring three or four against us, then factor in mighty england who swated away all competition to win the world cup last year, oh no wait.......

You're entitled to your opinion - mine is 4-4-2 is redundant at this level, Trap is a dinosaur and nearly every game we've won under him have been sheer, sheer lucky, not good. And before the performances against Italy & France card is played, they were (especially the former) at extremely low ebbs in their histories. Russia carved us like a knife through butter and England would do the same IMO. Wilshere/Lampard/Parker v Whelan/Gibson? Lennon v Kilbane?

Not yet....last I heard his ankle monitor doesn't let him leave England.

Don't the FAI bundle tickets for a match against 1 good team and 1 sh*t team...any word on who the good team is gonna be?

Actually, it does, but in fairness I checked it the moment I read the OP!

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

I'd love for this game to happen.

Whilst having some top individual players, England as a team aren't as good as they're made out to be at all, so I think Ireland would give them a very good game.

Capello neglects formation or shape to accommodate players the media are campaigning for or his untouchables. At least with Trappatoni, for all his faults, he does stick with a team who can best play to his formation and shape and the teams Capello's England struggle against are one's like Ireland who'll invite them to break us down.

If the game was to happen soon, I could see it turning out the same way as England V Ghana and we'd sneak a draw after a good game. However, almost a year is a very, very long time in football and anything could happen by then so I'll save my predictions for another time.

I wouldn't worry about coming unstuck because of an outdated formation, not if Capello is still in charge of England...

    Agreed.

If both teams were to meet tomorrow, I'd imagine Trappatoni would set out with two solid banks of our four, maybe even going 4-4-1-1 with the 1 dropping back into midfield when we don't have the ball and say to Capello ''break us down''.

Capello struggles with the above as his team lack any shape, balance, or even width because he's too busy accommodating his untouchable players. In fairness, in recent internationals he has tried to address it by playing Bent as the main striker with Rooney given licence to roam and Young offering width, but when all the ''star'' players are fit and ready to bother with the national team as it's coming close to Euro 2012, he'll revert to type again.

For all the good he's done as a club manager, Capello's out of his depth as England manager. He's allowed the media to dictate how he does things and has backtracked on his word several times. Along with that he doesn't seem to have the conviction or belief in himself any more. It's a shame because I thought he'd be the one to change how English football was going, but he's only added to the problem. The sooner he goes, the better for England.

    Trapattoni -V- Capello
Catenaccio at it's finest, 0-0 would be a near certainty

Its a made up story from The Star. They wanted to cash in on the "sick of the royal wedding" theme by trying throwing a "potential" clash with England. The last time they ran this story, the story of the day was Alan Pardew's first day at training with Newcastle, major news alright. Always look at the other stories when The Star run the annual Ireland to play England story.

AFAIK he has to wear it because he was charged with impersonating a footballer in Spain over the course of a year.

That'll have been removed a few months after he left jail. It'll be long gone by now.
