"Configuring windows" screen at every start up

    Everytime i boot up my pc i get a configuring windows screen which takes about five minutes and stay at 0%. Im running windows 7 x64. Any ideas?

    i had this the other night on a customer's computer, well, they'd been having it a while.

    i found the problem was windows update trying to download an update that was un-necessary on the computer, basically windows update would keep trying to install the update, you'd shut down the computer and then power up as normal, then windows update would finish trying to install the update on each boot.

    what i did was go to windows update, try install each update one by one, and by a process of elimination you'll find the troublesome one. now at this stage you have the option to google the update and do a manual install with the download fron the MS website, or, you can just hide the update. i chose to hide the update as a manual install told me it wasnt needed on the computer.

    after that, windows update was working normally again and i was able to download more updates, install them, and no "configuring updates" or "please wait" screen appeared...
