Hi all, moving soon and need advice on a good internet provider in the Drogheda area for playing COD mainly. Searched boards but couldn't find a recent thread. Have been with my old landlord's ISP for the past few months and it was terrible for the most part. I'd get a decent 3 bars at times but if anybody else was using it I'd have to resort to combat training. Couldnt change the setting from NAT 3 either so couldn't join games or host a party for almost all my friends list. Has anyone any suggestions for a provider that 2 people could work off and have or allow for a less strict NAT? I've been looking at a few like UPC which seem to prompt this for online gaming but it seems pricey and is 30 mb overkill? http://www.upc.ie/broadband/thirty/

I recommend UPC if you can get it. 30mb is probably overkill. I have it and never notice any lag (99% of the time) and almost always get host aswell which is a huge advantage

If your looking to save money, then the middle package (20mb?) is enough to play on comfortably but if you can afford 30mb then go for it. Its awesome

I second what he said, I have the 30 meg an its great, if ya can only afford the 20 then go for it, well worth it..

I have the 30meg too - great for gaming.
However, depending on how many other users will be using the internet with you, the 10meg package is plenty for gaming.

Cheers lads. There's probably only going to be a couple of us working off it but for the sake of a couple of euro a week, I'll probably go with the 30 meg.

I live up your neck of the woods, and don't have that option as UPC haven't entered our estate.

To make matters worse, no sign of NGB from Errorcom either :(

    Stuck with 3 meg!!!!!!

When I saw your post Everlast I thought i'd ring just to be sure even though I thought it was central enough spot(john street) but she said it's not available. Dont know what kind of retarded coverage they're running in the town. Think I'm in the NGB zone though but it doesnt look as good.

Its gas - not only is NGB not available in my estate, but they cannot tell me when it will be available!? Sure, with UPC not being available in my estate, they have no competition so they'll take their time I'm sure.

NGB isn't worth a boll*x. I was with Eircom for the past year and it was horrible. If my OH was on the laptop I couldn't game.

So glad I switched to UPC. If X isn't in a game, I get host most times.

Sort out your nat settings and see if that does anything.

cheers for the link yimsrg but I'm gone from that place at this stage so just working off the internet at work.

Anybody tried or heard any opinions on Imagine's WiMax? The best they have is a 10mb one which might do. Magnet have this dedicated(ie. only) gaming broadband but at €60 a month it looks like a rip off.

A friend of mine has Magnet TV and internet at €80 per month and he gets 100MB. Says it's worth every penny

Magnet's broadband is pretty epic. I'm paying €60pm for 25mb braodband and tv.

Althought I hear UPC are rearraging their packages in the next week or two. 25mb will be their slowest!
