Going for a flight on Sunday. The first train on the Cork to Dublin line arrives in Heuston at 11am. Was the service always this awful?

I can't imagine that there would be very much demand for a train before 08:30 out of Cork on Sunday.

Jack Lynch said the only people who should carry passengers on All Ireland day are CIE. CIE then said the only people they need carry on Sundays are those heading to GAA matches, and 11am is good enough for them :D

Sunday services were always awful. Try some of the private coach operators. They can often compete with the train for speed and comfort and are miles cheaper.

First aircoach leaves Cork at 07:00 and arrives in the airport at 11:15 .

What SHOULD certainly happen is an earlier train from Portlaoise to Dublin perhaps arriving for 09:30.

There definitely seems to be scope for some form of earlier 3x22K movement from Portlaoise Traincare which could turn Limerick/Galway/Westport services express after Portlaoise/Portarlington while picking up trade in Clondalkin and Kildare for the first southbound Cork/Galway services. One impediment could be if Irish Rail have gotten used to using Sunday morning for late maintenance possessions.

One way to make Dublin an attractive place for people outside the city to drive in and visit would be if the people working in the shops from the Kildare catchment had a rail option to get them to work which would free up car parking spaces etc.
