Revamping the ART events forum

We want to completely change how the ART events forum works. It's messy and there can be 2/3 threads relating to the same race. So what I want to do is sticky one main thread where people can go and post about races that don't already have a thread. Then at the end of the day I can go read this thread and then set up the relevant threads. The reason I want to set the threads up is that I want to include all the information about the race. Example link to race web site, link to the gps route thread of race and create a poll (yes them again ) and a link to last years race, also stick the date of the race in the title of thread. I don't think this will be too much work but I feel it will make our ART events forum the first port of call for anyone looking for a race.
After a while boardsies can start the threads themselves as they'll know the new layout.
Just looking for any thoughts and what other info you would include in the first post of each new race thread.

One of the first things I look for when reading about a race is a copy of the previous year's results. I like to see what the times are like and if I can avoid being completely last!

That sounds great Woddle. There are lots of other things that would be nice to know (price, prizes, facilities, etc), but they can usually be found on the race web site, or come up in the thread. The three links you have cover all the main things, and having the date in the title would be handy.

The idea sounds fine in theory but what happens if I am asking a question about an event that has no thread? What you are hoping for is that a race organisor will intiate a thread for a race.

You would ask your question in the new sticky thread(yet to be set up) and then later when the thread is setup those comments can then be moved into the new race thread.

All RDs would be welcome to answer questions. I just want to standardise all the threads and the only info I would be offering is the course gps, race site and last years thread.

I've gone and edited the sportsworld 5 mile thread.

    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056199161#

What I've done with the sportsworld 5 is what I'd like to do with all upcoming race threads.

    1. In the thread title should be name of race, distance and date preferably in the format dd/mm/yyyy
    2. Course gps link if applicable
    3. Race or club organisers website link
    4. Last years race thread if applicable
    5. Set up a poll titled Rate this race based on, Scenery, PB potential, Athmosphere, Value, Organisation with 5 fields, 5 stars (excellent), 4 stars (good), 3 stars (average), 2 stars (poor), 1 star terrible
set the poll up to close 2 weeks after race date.
    6. Add the new race thread to the Upcoming events thread if you know how or ask a mod.

    That looks great.

So am I understanding this right -
There's a stickied Upcoming events thread in Events (like the existing one)
Every event in that thread gets its own thread, with the details as for Sportsworld in the first post (which means some new threads should be added)
If you have a question or a comment or want to let people know about an event that isn't listed, you add a comment to the Upcoming events thread, and a mod will create a thread for the event

so you're both keeping that main thread up to date with events, and stopping duplication

Maybe also add the link to each race in the Events Calendar?

    (more work for you;))

    *edit...Ray said this a lot better^

That's the plan alright :D and as long as it's kept up to date there shouldn't be any problems.
Had actually forgotten about the existing upcoming events thread.

I've gone and updated Kildare, Cork and Donore. Both Cork and Donore 5k have last years poll results aswell.
