    Hi

Any 40yrs olds here with recommendations for good foundation? I am willing to spend a bit, but I cannot afford to make a mistake! My skin is normal / sensitive and fair. I need fairly good coverage but not too heavy - I hate the obvious caked make-up look. Does anyone have any experience of smashbox? Its pricey enough but if its good I'd spend the money. Have used Benefit in the past and might stick with that but find the YouRebel tinted moisturiser not always enough coverage. Also are primers worth the extra?
    Thanks:)

I have used both Benefit and Smashbox in the past. Benefit compact foundation (with LP Record design) was okay but nothing great, the stick foundation was slightly better. Smashbox halo foundation was okay but made my skin look dry, not a good look...:)

So my current foundation is YSL Teint Radiance in shade no 5 (Peche) It is a warm ivory colour that is a perfect match for my Celtic skin tone that is indeed sensitive. I apply it using Mac foundation brush (No. 190). I like a natural coverage so I simply use less product to achieve a lighter look. Product costs 32euros approx in Debenhams. I get about 3 months out of product and use it every day.

I do not use primer, too much on my budget and don't think it is necessary product.

However, I did invest in YSL bronzing powder Terre Saharienne in shade No. 1. Excellent applied very lightly to cheeks to just give the complexion a little lift, amazed at difference it makes. This powder is very light in texture and does not have any glitter/sheen particles.

Anyway hope this is of help, the perfect foundation is such a personal choice and is kind of a holy grail to find really.:)

THanks for that Nesbitt, will have a look at YSL. I have tried the Benefit primer before though and can vouch for that - really brightens skin! Have a good weekend
