Tri - rest between events

I'm doing my fist event pretty soon and the discipline that training has instilled into my routine has been great so I'm keen to pencil a few more events in this year so that I don't lapse back in to my pie eating ways.
I'm only going to be doing sprint events this year until I try my first Olympic in September. I'm also following an Olympic distance training plan.

What kind of rest do you triathletes take between events? I don't mean total down time just for example "3 weeks between events".

Also training... what kind of rest do you take after an event or is a sprint classed as not much more than a normal brick session so it's straight back into the training on the Monday and just time the planned training so that my easy week always coincides with the week leading up to an event?

I have done and will do a Sprint the weekend before an Olympic (it's only a 1-1.5hrs anyway) even when I do care about how I do on the second weekend.

I'm not sure if I would do two Olympics on consecutive weekends if I really cared about how I did in the second one.

For my 'A' Olympic race of the year, I'm not sure if I'd do a Sprint the weekend before. Well, I probably would if it was a short one and it was on the Saturday.

My plan for the year is:

    Ennis Duathlon 3rd Apr
    European Duathlon Champs 16th Apr
    Nenagh triathlon Sprint 30th Apr
    Joey Hannon Oly 8th May
    Tri Athy Oly 4th June
    Kilkee Oly 25th June ** A Race **

+ some random ones in Jul-Sept

I think it depends on a few factors - there is no right or wrong amt of time, it'll be different for everyone.

There is no point doing a second race before you've recovered from the last. That depends on how fit you are, and how fast your body recovers which can vary depending on what else you're doing during that time.

To say it's only 1 - 1.5 hrs might be true but it should be at a high intensity and that will leave you pretty wrecked. Unless you treat it as a training day, and then why bother with the race entry fee, cost of getting there/staying over etc only to finish with a result that doesn't do you justice? Some people are happy to do this, others aren't... depends on you.

You prob have a good idea of recovery times already from training, how long does it take after a hard session to recover to the point that your performance is back up - not that you drag yourself around? Use that as your guide, not other people as everyone is different.

    Thanks for the replies folks.

So far I've got the following pencilled in:

15th May - Blanchardstown Tri (Sprint)
04th June - TriAthy (Try-a-tri, first open water!)
    21st June - Dublin Docklands 8km
16th July - Muckno Mania Tri (sprint)
31st July - Rosses Point Tri (sprint)
28th Aug - Dublin Tri (Oly)

I've at least two weeks between them so from the replies should be fine.

I don't actually know what my recovery time is. I'm still improving in my times and losing weight so until I plateau then I can't tell how heavy sessions are impacting on my performance. If I had to say though then probably after a long run it would take a 3 days.

I am not really sure if I'm worried so much about performance or that I'll be 'forced' to take easy weeks which will mean it impacts on my fitness goals. I guess for me this is a new sport and this year is just about getting round and setting targets to be beaten next year :)
