:mad:Anyone know why the internet runs so slowly or not at all when the kids are off school? Is it that they are all online together gaming or whatever or does something get switched off somewhere cos the schools aren't using the internet. Dreading the long summer holidays.

The Irish network cannot take the load, kids off school, people on holiday, usage soars and as no one has invested in the infrastructure in 20 years.....

You will need to give us a bit more information about your situation.

What provider are you using. What is the usual speed. How do you connect to the internet.

I have not noticed any problems.

Service provider is three. Using one of their router devices and running various pc, laptop, playstation off of this. I live in kerry and was told when we came here that broadband would be difficult to get in our particular remote location. Despite this get good service most of the time with download speed between 1.299 mbps and 2.172mbps according to recent tests. In the last 2 weeks unable to connect at various times or pages just wont load and this has usually happened before usually during school holidays. Very very frustrating.

Basically your sharing the bandwidth or the service with everyone else in your locality OP. The more people on line at once, the slower the service.

Hence a slower service during peak times such as holildays, or when everyone gets in after school/work, and everyone connects.

Could understand this but 7.30 in the morning is hardly peak time.

As you said yourself, its a remote location.
In such areas, its pretty hard to get stable mobile midband connections.
Call up your service provider and complain. If theres nothing they can do to improve it, cancel your contract. Otherwise, the only other option is to deal with it, unfortunately.

If your using mobile broadband it will suffer alot when kids are off school.ive n oticed a vast increase of speed on my tesco mobiles internet today since they are all back at school..mobile networks slow down the more that connect to it .kids bored using facebook bebo youtube etc when off school can cripple local mobile masts.dreading the summer hols myself.three slows down the worst around here during summer .thats why im buying data for my tesco phone now instead of three
