Sending and Receiving MMS on Meteor

So I've got an iPhone 4 on Meteor and I've been told I've been sent some MMS' but they're not coming through. The only way I get them to come through is if I turn on data in settings. I usually keep 3G and Data turned off as I don't really need 3G outside of the house and I'm PAYG so it'll cost me. So I'm wondering, does my mobile data need to be turned on to send/receive MMS messages? Is there any other way? All the other phones I've had would just do it's thing and charge me the 30c or whatever it is.

I've checked all my settings for MMS and they're correct. It's not really a problem, just an annoyance and I'm just wondering is this normal that I have to turn on data to receive/send? Realistically it does seem feasible that it may have to connect to some data server to get the file or whatever but I'd just like to know. :)

MMS needs, and has always needed, data to send. Older phones were probably just deleting the internet APN and leaving the MMS APN alone, but since you are disabling all data, MMS won't work.

Still though, would it not be worth your while, depending on how much credit you use/what offer you have, to look at the Meteor Bill Pay Lite options. You get bill pay without the contract. If you are topping up by more than €20 a month and are getting any offer, bar the any network texts, it works out at much better value.

Thanks for that chrislad. I thought that but wasn't too sure as any of my Android phones would just turn the data on to send and then back off. :)
There's just something about bill pay that I just don't like and I think the 20E formfree texts to any network and then 69c for 50mb a day whenever I do actually use it of I'm on a long bus journey or something suits me down to a tee so I don't think there's even a reason to change for extra when it's not needed. I also text non-meteor numbers a lot so I need those free any network texts. :)

Oh I'd just like to ask too, if I am connected to a WiFi network and turn on data solely to send/receive MMS will I or will I not be charged the 69c for the 'days' usage. Nothing big really but I'd rather it not to save me on some credit. :p

If you only use data when on WiFi then you won't be charged. Watch out though because the iPhone turns WiFi off when in standby. If you have data enabled when the WiFi goes to sleep then you will be charged.

I don't know if MMS will work over WiFi. You use a different APN (access point) to access MMS, and if you try to access, for example, the data.mymeteor.ie APN from a non Meteor phone, it will block you. I assume the MMS APN will do the same to a non Meteor attempt to access.

Hang on, I think there is some misunderstanding here.

Having 3G or Data turned on will not cost you, provided your not surfing the web or using it. I have Cellular Data on 24/7 and it doesn't cost me. When I browse the web, I turn on Wifi. Out and about, I use data (Which costs as per your plan) Merely having it on won't cost you a cent.

MMS will only send and receive with at least cellular data turned on (You don't need 3G turned on, which is turn will save some battery)
